White's response is to safely get his king out of check, there are a number of possibilities ...

(2) Kg4 or Kg2 or Kf2 (what do you think is strategic for white to play?)
The white king will kill the black pawn...what did you gain? (there might be a benefit down the road but only if white takes the bait)
