MBA Programs

Guys need your help. I am thinking of doing MBA. Here are questions.

1. Which university / school I should try in southern california ?

2. I can do part time right ?

3. In case I loose my job how hard is it to convert my H1 visa into student visa and continue than studying full time ?

4. How much does it cost ?

5. Is it worth it ?

Don't know much about the other questions, but UCLA, USC and UCI offer MBA programs and have a very good reputation in the nation.

Check out these links:

http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/04/geographic.htm
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/gra...rank_brief.php

Here you can view the national rankings, school profiles, etc. and might even be able to investigate further as far as costs, PT/FT, and other useful information.

I believe most universities offer part-time programs... I'd assume the three UCs I listed above do.

Is it worth it? Definitely!

This might also help...

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/gra...ndex_brief.php

It lists UCR, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Fullerton also... these might be slightly cheaper than the other three, but not sure how good their programs are.

part time - MBA is shit .
more than studying books of philip kotler and peter drucker , emphasis should be on understanding real time business dynamics. choose a college where there is more teaching/visiting staff from industrial houses, not a college where there are lot of Phds and statisticians or theory masters.

Considering your visa status ... India!

Is it worth it? Yes and no. Depends what ... where ... noh?

Other day I met a young Indian doing MBA. I asked him why? Cause he could not find a job so instead decided to do MBA. What good does MBA does to his resume unless his father owns a mill? Overqualified for someone just starting ... I thought.

MBA is like having PhD. In Asia and South Asians in particular ... people give away cards by thousands with DR. title attached and PhD in bold below their names. In Germany nobody gives a shit ... every other person is a PhD.

See ... what I mean? Is it worth it? What ... where?

Try to get an assistantship to go with it. If not, you're looking at approx $60K in expenses at least (and this is if you're single, not with wife + kid). The education alone is around $30K and this is for residents. Non-residents pay around twice that.

3. In case I loose my job how hard is it to convert my H1 visa into student visa and continue than studying full time ?

Better to wait until you get a green card.

4. How much does it cost ?
visit the corresponding websites for UCLA or USC

5. Is it worth it ?
better to expand knowledge base horizontally than vertically these days.....unless of course you want to be entrepreneur

from couple of close experinces (Yeas all my friends, brother etc) have finished MBA in usa. I have following comments

1.Do full time ifyou want to change field. Try to do only from top 10 if u have to do full time

2.Part time is good again if company is in agreement for it. ALso scope for promotion after that

3.Go for one year exectuive one (urself or company sponsered) if you want to grow in your own field itself

My two cents

BTW, one of my good friends went to Loyola Marymount. She now works at TCW in downtown LA. I believe she's still paying off a lot of her student loans and still has the same car that I saw her with years ago.

MBA is not for everybody. One should first see if he/she is management material or not. In USA, degrees do not count, it is your performance that matters. Companies like GE, Walmart and Caterpillar have programs that turned high-school passouts into managers and VPs over time - no college at all.
