Two terrorists killed,One arrested in delhi encounter

Quote:
NEW DELHI: Two terrorists were killed and two Delhi police personnel were injured in a fierce encounter in Jamia Nagar of south Delhi.

Atiq, wanted in connection with the serial blasts in Ahmedabad and Delhi, and one of his associates were killed when a police team stormed the house where they were holed up, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnail Singh told reporters at the end of the encounter that lasted more than an hour.

According to police tip-off, there were five terrorists holed up in an apartment near Khalilullah mosque. While two terrorists have been killed, two have managed to escape and one terrorist has been apprehended.

Mohan Chand Sharma, an inspector who led the team, and a head constable were injured in the heavy exchange of fire. Sharma suffered a bullet injury in the abdomen, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H J S Dhaliwal said.

The police team had gone in search of the militants after the prime suspect in the Ahmedabad serial blasts Abu Basher had identified the four-storied house near a mosque in Jamia Nagar where he along with Delhi serial blasts mastermind Md Subhan Qureshi had taken shelter in July.

Police sources say the terrorists are member of the terror group Indian Mujahideen. Jamia Nagar is close to New Friends Colony in south Delhi.

On Thursday, Bashir was brought to Delhi in connection with Saturday's (Sept 13) serial blasts. He allegedly told his interrogators that he knew serial blasts were being planned in Delhi but claimed he was not aware of their timing. The blasts killed 25 people and left over 100 injured.

According to police sources, Bashir on Thursday also told his interrogators that more back-to-back attacks on Delhi had been planned

Police said they had intelligence inputs on the presence of militants in the house and during a checking, the militants fired on the personnel. Dhaliwal rubbished reports that the encounter took place in a mosque.

Its sad that a precious life is lost so casually. All it would have taken to prevent this loss is a bullet proof vest (he was shot in the abdomen area). I saw in the pictures that some were wearing vests and some weren't.

Unlike the imgae our people have about police he was a true hero.

Only commandos wear Bullet proof Jackets or if you are sure of an encounter.
Here they were not sure and also if they were wearing Bulletprrof Jacket and Helmet, some street boys would have informed the persons hiding and they would have ran away.

All Crime Branch and ATS officers have to risk their lives like this.Even Mumbai Crime Branch really wears. The criminals always have their exit plan ready. See in this case also 2 ran away.

Re: Two terrorists killed,One arrested in delhi encounter

Hmm.. poor fellow. RIP. Now the government will award him a medal and then even before its his first death anniversary, the government will release some terrorists or kiss ass of Pakistan some more. Remember the Parliament attack and the medals given to the brave policemen who died?

And yes, now waiting for Tests Setalvad, Arundhati Roy and Shabana Azmi types to raise 'human rights' concerns and file write petitions.

Many "Iamseculars" in the locality of the shootout aren't very pleased with the shootings:

Cool bhai, I knew it already that some would call it fake. Just that I did not even bother to check out such reports. I know it very well that our government gives a damn, the 'secular' folks always shout 'foul play' and the media only sensationalises such events to get their evening news ratings and website hits and traffic.

I am saddened not at the death of Mohan Chand Sharma, but at the sure fact that his death will have been a waste. I can foresee that within a few days or months or just before elections, all the elected thugs in New Delhi and elsewhere will applaud SIMI and such, declare them patriots of the nation and all such sacrifices and bravery will be be forgotten. Period.

Why do I say this? Look at the pathetic farce of how the government is not willing to enact a tough terror law like POTA. When TADA was in effect, I remember, the underworld used to shake in its pants. The number of extortion threats and gang war was way down in Mumbai. I am sure you remember that peiod of time too. Many top dons were behind bars.

Its sad, but very true

It depends on area of operation and the organisation involved. If you see pics from CI operations and even during patrolling in Kashmir, pretty much everyone - CRPF, RR, Army and even J&K police wear BP jackets. But then they have been in CI environment for pretty long time and they know how precious a BP jacket is during encounters. I have seen Assam Rifles and Army soldiers wear BP jackets even on patrol duties in NE. Sad to say the same is not the case elsewhere. Also, most police depts are under-equipped. But then Delhi police are clearly not. This happens because most of policemen dont understand the value of protection and proper training. Delhi police have their own commando units on standby 24/7. NSG is at their call. What could have been done is that the local police units could have setup a perimeter and called in these special units - DP commandos or NSG. But no! Like morons, we have to rush in without proper gear and stratergy! The result - 1 casualty of a officer, 2 escaped terrorists! Dont take me the wrong way. The police officer who laid down his life clearly deserves our praise and gratitude. But this casuality could have been avioded. I say the local cops are not qualified to handle these incidents because they are not trained in urban close combat encounters and they are not properly equipped - firepower and protection - wise!

If this were Kashmir, J&K police or CRPF would have secured a perimeter around the area, called in RR or Army and the rapid reaction teams (which have undergone commando training) of either of these forces would have handled the situation professionally! If they can standardize this in Kashmir, why cant they do it in other metros esp. the capital!

The bomb diffusion pics from Surat and Ahmedabad incidents are clear example of how policemen risk their lives without waiting for proffesionals to handle the situation.

Nobody is arguing the fact that he was a hero. He died in the line of duty, of course he is a hero.

My point is that our police needs to be trained to value their own lives. Its very common in India to have a false sense of bravery by being neglecting about personal safety. Now I am not sure if he was assigned a bullet proof vest and he neglected to wear it, or if the police never provided him one. If it is latter, then the department is to be blamed.

If you are approaching a crime scene like above with the intention of having a confrontation, you have to assume the worst, which is that there will be cross firing. And, you can always wear the vest under the shirt, that way your identity is not given away.

Tensions ran high in the Jamia Nagar locality of South Delhi [Images] as news of one religious place being transgressed reportedly by police, during the encounter with terrorists on Friday.

The house where terrorists were holed up lies very close to a religious place. Once the firing stopped, large number of people thronged the narrow lanes of the area and shouted religious slogans.

"We are all against terrorism, then why was our religious place targeted," asked one of the residents.

Refuting any such news, DCP South Delhi HGS Dhaliwal clarified that no religious place was used during the encounter.

"The firing was done from a place near the religious place," he said.

The tensions were fuelled by rumours that the operation was concocted by police and no fire was shot from inside the house.

Meanwhile, one media personnal, who was informing his office about the encounter, was abused by the local residents. They claimed that no shot were fired from inside the house and the encounter was a blatant lie.

Neighbours of the house where entire operation unfolded, however, confirmed that gun shots were fired from both sides.

"It all started at 10.30 in the morning. We were preparing to go to our work when some police people came in the area," said an eye-witness who refused to disclose her identity.

Ab saali govt will give 2-3 lakh Rs to this brave officer's family and kissa khatam. Baad mai inquiry commission baitha ke bolenge, he was killed in friendly fire, aur 2-3 aur officer ko suspend kar denge. Vote-bank mamla jo hai.
