Double Tragedy in West Bengal

A. 89 people die in a Hospital fire. More than many a Bomb Blast that took place in 2008.

89 dead in Kolkata hospital fire

Frantic rescue ops at Kolkata hospital

Eighty-nine people choked to death, many of them in their sleep — some too ill even to move — at Kolkata’s posh AMRI Hospital early Friday morning when thick smoke from a fire in the basement of the hospital spread through the central AC ducting and engulfed the seven floors above.

The scale of tragedy dwarfed the 1997 Uphaar Cinema fire in Delhi (which killed 59) and the 2010 Stephen Court fire in Kolkata (which killed 43).

Relatives and friends of patients — wailing loudly, livid with rage or just disconsolate — demanded answers from the authorities as they waited anxiously for news of their wards.

Hooch tragedy death toll rises to 169

Left Front accuses State govt of negligence in treatment of victims

The death toll in the illicit liquor tragedy at Sangrampur and adjoining villages of the Diamond Harbour sub-division of West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district swelled to 169 on Saturday — with three more persons dying here in the last 24 hours.
While many admitted in the hospital are still fighting for life, some were released on the day.
“About 60 patients are still admitted in different hospitals. About 15 of them are critical but stable,” said Sikha Adhikari, the district's Chief Medical Officer of Health. Ms. Adhikari said that many patients have recovered and are being released.
Since Wednesday, 370 patients have been hospitalised after they consumed spurious liquor from the illicit liquor dens in Sangrampur and its vicinity. “Usually 72 hours is a sufficient time for alcohol to come out of the system. We have 30 patients at the hospital. Though most of them are stable, some are complaining of loss of vision,” said K. K. Banik, superintendent of M. R. Bangur Hospital where 78 patients were referred from the sub-divisional hospital.
While the locals ransacked various illegal liquor dens in the area, the administration also conducted raids at various places in the district where illegal liquor is manufactured.
A CID team visited the Diamond Harbour sub-divisional hospital on Saturday and spoke to the patients admitted in the hospital for liquor poisoning.
“We have recorded some statements and taken few photographs. Our investigations will continue,” said K. Jayaraman, DIG (CID), who visited the hospital. So far, 16 persons have been arrested in the incident and CID officials are likely to interrogate them
Meanwhile, Left Front Committee Chairman Biman Bose alleged that the government initially neglected treatment of the hooch victims, which worsened the situation.

Re: Double Tragedy in West Bengal

Sad ... expect such tragedies to be more frequent and seriously devastating.

Consider the facts ... India's land mass is 1/3 of China, or US, and or Canada ... and yet India has over 350 people per square KM against China's 225, 34 for US, and about 4 for Canada.

Bangla Desh (presently 1100 people per sqkm) is another great burden on Indian land ... BD population will have no option but to occupoy Indian land as its own land sinks.

China is building entire cities to reside its population. Indian politicians and rich are busy buying hectares of farming land to build palatial weekend resorts for family and friends.

There recently was an article in Indian press ... army has no land or all of it is too close to human population to use for practice sessions. They do have land to build golf courses for Adarsh Nagar Society generals to play sports ... at tax payers expenses.

You see the problem?
