Talking Pesial Thread: Weird and Funny News from Bihar and UP

With apologies to Nepalibhai and Chitralaji.

News originating out of Bihar and Up often are so strange, weird, and funny that boggles your mind. And there are just too many to open dozen threads a day. Pakis want J&K ... let's be generous and give them entire states of Bihar and UP. Two states will be perfect fit for Pakistanis. And India without these two states can lay claim to a developed and civilized country! Win-Win for all.

Angry passengers hijack train to Islampur

Patna, jULY 7, DHNS:

A bizarre case of passengers hijacking a train occurred in Bihar on Tuesday evening when 560 Dn Buxar-Islampur passenger train was hijacked by its angry passengers at Fatuha junction.

The train, which was on its way to Islampur from Buxar, was stopped midway at Fatuha station on platform No 6. An announcement was then made by the railway officials that the train won’t go further to Islampur. The public broadcast infuriated the passengers who mercilessly thrashed driver Nagendra Singh and the co-driver Hemant Kumar, and forced the duo to take the train to Islampur, signal or no signal.

Before the railway mandarins at Fatuha could react and seek additional reinforcement of GRP and Rapid Action Force from adjoining DRM office at Danapur, the train had left for Islampur.

Immediately, a strong contingent of RPF was rushed in. It was a dramatic scene. While the police were chasing the train, the driver of the train, out of fear of further thrashing, was not prepared to stop it. Eventually, the police overpowered the train at Hilsa station.

Railway SP Vivek Kumar Singh said that the Fatuha station master delayed in informing the police, “or else we could have averted such an incident.” An FIR was lodged against unknown persons. Commandant of Danapur Railway Division Pranav Kumar said he had taken the matter seriously.

And this Bihari doctor lady is now world famous. Up till 6pm yesterday ... a total of 11346 male foreigners had broken off engagements and wedding plans to marry Indian girls for fear of acquiring a mother-in-law just like this doctor from Bihar.

Bihar hasn't changed, feels Om Puri in 'dirty' Gaya

Abdul Qadir, TNN, Aug 3, 2010, 04.51am IST

GAYA: Cine actor Om Puri on Monday reiterated the comment he made on the sanitary conditions in Gaya town during his month-long stay here to shoot 'Patang', a national award winning film, in 1990s. "I still feel like picking up the broom to clean the Gaya streets," he said.

In Gaya after 17 years on a personal visit, Om Puri told TOI the town remains dirty. "Gaya has not changed a bit," he said.

Heaps of garbage and big stone pieces welcomed the actor when he entered the town by road from the Patna side late on Sunday evening. Unlike Gaya, a changed Bodh Gaya impressed him a lot.

Referring to Biharís perception outside the state, the veteran Bollywood actor said a genuine change eludes Bihar and some serious efforts are required to earn respect outside the state. "Biharis are nice guys in Mumbai. But back home, they regain the rustic ways, indiscipline and contempt for law. Maybe, the Shiv Sena is more effective than your Ranvir Sena," Puri said in a somewhat lighter vein.

Asked about the prospects of a film city in Bihar, the cine actor said the idea is not viable as directors are still shy of shooting on the state locations for fear that a criminal-politician may force them to let the heroine dance at their private parties. "So long this perception continues, the film city idea is fanciful," he said. He said even a Bihar-born director like Prakash Jha shoots his Bihar-centric movies in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

"Hypocrisy has its limits," he said.

Asked about his political ambitions, Om Puri said he does not fit into the politician's profile. But if sent to Parliament, he will not make any negative contribution to push the country further down. "This is no mean a contribution. If you cannot plant a tree, please do not plug the leaves either," said the actor.

Re: Pesial Thread: Weird and Funny News from Bihar and UP

Politicians in all states are like that - beating each other and throwing objects has happened even in parliament a few years back.
Ompuri goes to Gaya and voices opinion about all of Bihar - That is flawed.
I agree with Ompuri's opinion about film city in Bihar though.

The train hijacking incident is too bizarre - although I find it strange that only Deccan Herald has reported this. This incident is too bizarre to be reported by only one newspaper or a website.

Bihar train robbery: 21 passengers injured, Rs 2.5 lakh looted

PTI, Aug 6, 2010, 12.31pm IST

Bihar: Armed dacoits loot Lal Quila Express
LAKHISARAI/KIUL: A large group of armed robbers struck the Sealdah-New Delhi Lal Quila Express today, fired at GRP personnel, assaulted passengers and looted them near Bhalui halt in Bihar's Lakhisarai district, leaving 21 people, including a jawan, injured.

Enraged over the incident, passengers, mostly kanwarias (devotees of Lord Shiva), shouted slogans and ransacked the office of the station master in Kiul.

Around 35 robbers boarded the train at Jamui station and walked into AC and sleeper coaches of the train and started looting cash and valuables, including jewellery and mobile phones worth Rs 2.50 lakh, from the passengers, official sources said quoting the FIR registered by six passengers.

As the unarmed GRP personnel resisted them, they opened fire critically wounding one of them. The jawan has been hospitalised at a nearby hospital, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Railway) R K Sharma said.

Passengers travelling on the reserved berths, besides the kanwariyas were assaulted by the robbers with butts of pistols and rifles when they refused to part with their belongings.

While five passengers, including three women, suffered serious injuries, 15 kanwariyas and others sustained minor injuries, sources said.

A team of doctors was called by the Railways to provide first-aid to the passengers and the train resumed the onward journey to New Delhi more than two hours behind schedule, they said.

About four to five unarmed GRP personnel were present in the train when the incident took place at around 4.45 AM, the sources said, adding "no weapons are given to the GRP personnel on the route".

According to the sources, four robbers had earlier boarded the train at Jamui railway station, but passengers and the jawans overpowered them and caught two of them. The other two who managed to escape, alerted
their accomplices and the robbery took place at the next halt.

Police sources said that of the 275 trains that need security in Bihar, only 15 per cent are patrolled by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the rest by the Bihar Police.

Senior police officials have reached the spot and raids are on to track down the robbers.
