Thumbs down Tagore’s Nobel prize stolen

bhendi yeh sabb kyaa horahaa hai... kall parson lagtaa hai laal kilaa aurr taj mahal bhi gayab hojayenge...

Kolkata: The country’s first Nobel prize, won by Rabindranath Tagore way back in 1913, has been stolen. Both the medal and the Nobel citation are gone from the safety vault of the museum of Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan. Along with the Nobel, several other personal belongings of Tagore have also been stolen.
At about 10.15 a.m. on Thursday, university officials noticed that the articles were missing from the glass case of the Rabindra Memorial Museum. The thieves apparently broke into the museum through a window. “The grill had been cut and the thieves got in from there,’’ said a university spokesperson.
Soon after the theft was reported, investigators from the CID headquarters in Kolkata rushed to Santiniketan. An inventory of the stolen articles has been drawn up by the university, which includes—besides the medal and citation—Tagore’s favourite gold pocket watch, his wife Mrinalini Devi’s gold bangle and antique Baluchari sari, his father Debendranath Tagore’s gold ring, several silver utensils used by him and his family and some articles made of ivory.
“The university was closed for half a day on Tuesday and fully closed on Wednesday. So, it’s difficult to say whether the break-in happened on Tuesday or Wednesday until we probe further,’’ a senior university official said at a hurriedly called press conference.
Questions have already been raised about the security arrangements at the museum.

this is amazing- and sad. but i don't blame the museum. who would have thought that anyone would want to steal tagore's prize?

the chances of recovering the things must be very slim too. what a pity.

I meant the medal and citation.. not considering the assorted goodies that went along with it. Yup difficult to recover until some one tries to sell it.

Hmm that thought never crossed my mind.

Par saala why steal Tagor's noble prize? Itna bada millioniare fan us ka kaun hoinga!!!

I don't think any foreigner would know/remember Tagor at all!! or that he won nobel prize!! Ye koi deshi millioniare ko hi investigate karna mangta.

either a desi or foreign millionaire or an opportunistic thief who saw that security was virtually non existent. who would have thought that such a national treasure would be stolen?
if it is an opportunistic thief he will probably try and seek out a foreign collector. it is sad. the relics will probably never be recovered now. they are probably in dubai now
