This is as an incentive for you to be safe. THere is also a high claims loading in some cases. It cannot be that the safe guys are paying for unsafe guys all the time. Hence this NCD as was called in early 00s. Also, it is to dissuade you from Chillar claims (they actually have the deductible for that too).

Re: Car Insurance (India)

another query, is it possible to get the insurance cover only against theft (apart from the obvious third party insurance)

any insurance company provides this option in India ?

That would be tailor made insurance for which the premium would almost be twice the normal you would pay of all inclusive insurance.

just calculated that we wont really require insurance against damage apart from the minor ones here and there and as we have to pay a minimum of Rs. 1000 for them every time, its better to just get the insurance against theft (which we cant foresee).

[even if we get a major accident , say once in five years, it should not exceed the collective amount of the premium (which would be around 75 k in five years) ]

so, i just wanted to know if there is any such policy plan available for customers in India

Re: Car Insurance (India)

Oy an accident is more probable than theft (depending on where you live and where you park your car for extended time). In a case where you are sure there won't be major accident issues, I will suggest going for TP alone.. kayko bekar ka bewakoofi karne par tulaa hai?

Lage to do chaar hazaar ka anti theft device khareed le.. long term mein sasta vo padega. Besides, anti theft device and letting everyone know your car has it.. (this car protected by lojack or wheel locks or such) will discourage would be thieves.. tumhare gaadi par ek ghanta maatha pachi kyon kare jub dusra gaadi easy hai? Infact just put a sticker that itself is deterrant enough.. people do that all time sticker that says.. this house protected by Godrech (spelling galt marenge so that godrej does not come and screw them) home security company.. call 1-800-YOU-FOOL.. Chor sochenga ki saala godrech kaunsa company hai.. ho saktaa hai.. kyon risk lenaa.. agali gaadi.. agala ghar.. etc..

It may still not be worthwile for you going by what Swamiji had said. Why dont you increase the deductible. check out websites like bima online
