Re: Netflix movies worth watching

Dhanak by Nagesh Kukunoor.

A blind boy is helped by his sister to go on an adventure to meet SRK so that he can get his eyesight back by his 9th birthday. SRK is only naam-ke-waaste.

Excellent movie, keeps you engrossed and entertained. Was twiddling my thumbs for a long time on this movie... finally pulled the plug... and was treated well. Powerful performances by all cast... and for many here, there is no SRK in the movie

ID

One of those art movies that some idiot makes for no reason. A painter faints in a girl's flat while painting. The rest of the movie is about the girl, taking him to the hospital... trying to find his family... identifying him in the morgue (the guy dies without recovering). And of course, f-words thrown around for the drama.

The entire movie you will wonder why you are watching it. Completely morbid with zero entertainment. And as these art-movies go, incomplete ending. The movie just ends... and you are left holding your gonads wondering what happened.

Udta Punjab and Rustom are there now.
Was anyway catching up CNN decade series. First 60s and now in the middle of 70s.
Shows that Jimmy Carter had some tough luck. The Iranians took sadistic pleasure in releasing hostages just hours after Reagans innaugration began.

cuatro-estaciones-en-la-habana - this show is just brilliant - it hits so many spots perfectly - cuba/havana/a romantic cop who is also a poet at heart. the gorgeous spots in cuba.. film noir at it's best..

5 stars...

Thumbs up Re: Netflix movies worth watching

here is another Cuban gem from Netflix

Papa - A beautiful movie on the life and times of Ernest Hemingway set during the cuban revolution. Giovanni Ribisi is brilliant as the up and coming reporter for miami herald who writes a letter to Ernest Hemingway.

5 stars

Watched Madaari on Netflix.. predictable and slow story with some flaws.. still watchable. I'd give 2.5 stars on 5.

Re: Netflix movies worth watching

enjoyed "Today's Special" on NetFlix - good feel good funny movie - this one..

Amazon Prime has this really cool series ' The Patriot' - season one currently available and highly enjoyable.. in the comic noir tradition

Watched Chauthi Koot. Slow but gets a bit interesting. As with mainstream movie walas, in a subtle manner message is 'Sardarjis are Good. Hindus not so good'.

I havent seen too many movies better than that one. I may have liked it bcoz of its Rajasthani background as I have a thing for NI rustic life portrayed in cinemas

Gulaabi Gang is also a good movie.

Re: Netflix movies worth watching

Watched Mirzya.. I didn't quite like this version of Punjabi legendary love story of Mirza Sahiba.. not much in the story so they had lots of crappy songs, with Gulzar reciting and Daler Mehndi shrieking his poetry, and mixed older sequences of the story in parallel with the main modern one. Saiyami Kher can't act looks like a lizard, Anil Kapoor's son is okay.. overall the movie is a time waste. My rating 1.5/5.
