Bhul jao Green Card - Forget your Green card dream

Whoever is in queue for GC, I think it's time to forget it and think about alternative.

http://www.immigration-information.c...-of-state.html

important message:

Therefore, without legislative relief, the waiting time for Indian EB2 applicants may be measured in years, even decades.

snips from the link

AILA just published the following information that they received from the Visa Office:

Department of State Advises of Dire State of Affairs on Visa Number Availability for Those Born in India or China!

Cite as "AILA InfoNet Doc. No. 09061032 (posted Jun. 10, 2009)"

Mr. Charles Oppenheim of the Department of State Visa Office has advised AILA of the following predictions for the movement of priority dates for the remainder of FY2009 and future years. He estimates that all 140,000 employment-based immigrant visa numbers will be used this fiscal year (October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009). Mr. Oppenheim notes that the estimates provided on visa availability for the remainder of FY2009 were based on USCIS processing during the first 7 months of the fiscal year, and any changes to USCIS processing patterns would impact availability. Mr. Oppenheim reported:

...

* EB2 India. The prognosis is grim. For July 2009, the cut-off date is January 1, 2000, and the category may become unavailable in August or September of 2009. There are currently approximately 25,000 EB2 India cases which have been reviewed by USCIS and queued up at the Department of State awaiting visa numbers for the "green cards" to be approved. Like all other countries, India has a limit of 2,800 EB2 numbers available per year plus any "fall across" and "fall down" numbers from EB4, EB5 and EB1 visa numbers. Therefore, without legislative relief, the waiting time for Indian EB2 applicants may be measured in years, even decades.

Re: Bhul jao Green Card

I have stoped worrying about green card. I don't think I will get GC in next 10 yrs or so. I am in EB3 category which is unavailable now. Many of my friends have applied for canadian PR.

Guys so what, keep waiting one day you'll have it, then wait for nationality. You still have a lifetime to wait. Also, maybe try the asylum route, people get to stay forever that way. Contract marraiges is another way some people achieve their lifetime goal of settling abroad.

No you have to marry a US citizen. Green card holders, sadly, do not have a provision like H1B visa holders have to get a H4 visa for their spouse.

As for those with EAD cards, they just have to wait and keep renewing their EAD cards. Now they have started issuing 2 year validity EAD cards.

The problem is that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans have done anything concrete towards the immigration process reforms. There are many illegal aliens in America. Both parties want to give them amnesty. Fine, its vote bank politics. But there is no comprehensive action and the USCIS is woefully underfunded and understaffed.

Anyway, in these tough market times, immigration will definitely be put on the back burner.

charchu, the CIR(comprehensive immigration reform that Obama is talking about) has provisions for the people waiting in queue for their GC through employment based visas.

Keep waiting. Every time there are elections nearing, we hear the same old story. Nothing really happens. Only Mexicans get a free pass by way of 'guest worker' and such amnesty programs. Both parties are crooks when it comes to helping legal, tax paying, law abiding immigrants.
