Question newpassport in lieu of damaged passport

Hi Guys,

My passport was damaged and i have applied for a new passport by tatkal service to indian embassy, sanfrancisco. I has been 10 days and i did not recieve my passport or any mails from the embassy.

I have to travel to India on Dec 25th. Can any one suggest me whether I can go to embassy for collecting my passport even though I applied by mail.

Your suggestions are highly appreciated and I will be beneficiable.

Thanks,
Bhanu

Phone the SF Consulate. They are pretty sensitive to such issues and will help you. I have had good experience with them always.

Here is their site http://www.cgisf.org/

Bhanumatiji ... holiday seasons tend to be busy periods for Indian missions overseas. Give them extra few days. Next time, try to damage passport a month or two earlier to give enough time for embassy to issue you a new one.

Do we know each other? I have a feeling we both beneficiated from same school ...

Now a days..all passport applications will be sent to Delhi..and new scannable passport is printed in DELHI only....and shipped back to Embassy..so 3 week time (minimum)

and if the existing passport had been issued from other than SF..then the parallel verification will be done at the old Passport issuing embassy/office.

so add up the time.... it took me 6 weeks to get a new one (tatkal) when I am living in another country that my existing passport issue country..+ addition of Prinitng in Delhi and mail to Embassy I applied for renew passport

Mighty nice of you. Most Indians come seeking help never return ... never to thank.

Thank you.

No. You need not postpone your trip to here India. You should be able to check progress of your application on internet. Are you in a position to visit local consul office in person? Ask them normal number of days it takes. Most Indians like you living overseas are quite surprised at efficiency of Delhi people when it comes to passport and visa matters. Serious.

Are you aware of https://www.indian-visa.com/track-passport ?

Re: newpassport in lieu of damaged passport

don't know what you did... once I got the date applying online for passport renewal, I had to pay maybe 300$ and I got my passport on the same day at SFO. Did you get your date with the embassy online? On that day you take your application and passport and tell the person at the counter that your travel date is near, and they do a tatkal. They give the passport on the same date. Only condition is, your police verification record should be available online.... which is a usually available these days ... unless your original passport was from some backward district who are still unknown to computers ?

Kranti & Jai ... you obviously paid no read to BKN's reply. All passport renewals are done in Delhi. 10 working days for application to arrive in Delhi ... 7 working days for Delhi to do whatever it has to ... add another 10 working days for new passport to arrive back. And you can track progress on internet.

Now can you tell me the procedure to apply for a new passport in India.

These pesial procedures are for our ooch seth log living in Merika. You just need to visit local travel agent. One week maximum and you will have shiny new passport.

I wont mind getting a new passport in USA also.

Not a problem. Sell that 2 bedroom investment flat in Sholapur. Bring money to country of ooch seth log of ours, influential seth log like Amtha. You can buy several houses with Sholapur flat money. Live in one and rent out the rest.

All you need to invest is 500th and they give you pink card called green card. Serious.

:roflmao:

Re: newpassport in lieu of damaged passport

10 working days for application to arrive in Delhi ? Why dont the embassy people repair the scanners if they cant replace it
Or is it that the people in Delhi dont trust their colleagues in USA and dont start the process till they see the physical application on their table.
Since you know so much about the internal workings of the passport office and embassy people pray tell us why does it take 10 days for the application to reach Delhi oh you said 10 working days.
