Re: Pakistan shows no mercy to stray dogs

Officials estimate that at least 700 dogs have been poisoned and killed after the number of stray dog attacks in Karachi went up.
The dogs were culled using poison tablets hidden in chicken meat.
Bodies of dead dogs were lying in various areas of the city and municipal workers gathered them for disposal.
"At least 700 dogs have been killed only in two areas of Karachi's south in the last couple of days," said Sattar Javed, a spokesman for the municipal authority reported Reuters.
This operation has been conducted in six city districts and officials have estimated that thousands of stray dogs have been killed. However, an official count was not declared.

Animal rights activists in Pakistan have criticised the operation which is being considered necessary as last year Jinnah Hospital in Karachi treated 6,500 people bitten by dogs. The count has reached to 3,700 cases this year.
Mass culling of stray dogs happened in 2015 as well. Following the killing, the dogs were laid out in the hot sun and dumped in a rubbish pile later.
Governing more than 23 million people as of 2013, Karachi government was promoted to launch the culling campaign after increasing dog biting incidents.

A similar practice takes in Lahore as well. But Pakistan is not the only country which kills dogs.
In 2014, Russian officials of the city of Sochi were accused of a campaign to exterminate street dogs using poison. The authorities hired a private company to kill as many stray dogs as possible before Winter Olympics.
Both the nations received flak from their country's animal rights group for killing stray dogs.

They can export then to China for more weapons.

Re: Pakistan shows no mercy to stray dogs

This time, I would support Pakistan. Stray dogs are a huge nuisance. I would cull them if I were to move to move to india.

If those animal lovers are so bothered by it, they should adopt the stray dogs and take them into their homes. They should be held responsible anytime a stray dog bites or scratches a civilian.

Unless they is being used to deter thieves and ruffians in the night time, stray dogs are a huge menace. Maneka Gandhi their goddess in India should do something concrete about it.

There are also alternatives like sterilization and as i said, catch and export to China. If China stops giving freebies to Pak, perhaps they could switch to the barter of these dogs.

There must be a better option than killing.

Yes, it was mentioned in the post above. Decent countries... and decent people use decent methods, like sterilization. 'nuff said.

Re: Pakistan shows no mercy to stray dogs

In the US, if you find a stray dog, you take it to an animal shelter. They keep it for a week or 10 days to see if anyone steps up to adopt the animal. Otherwise, they use an injection to 'put it down'. Semantics makes a difference. 'Putting it down' sounds so much more humane than 'killing it'.

Most pets are neutered in the US and you have only licensed breeders. India can adopt this policy but there are often more important things to do.

God bless you!!

You should see the behaviour of many people in Bangalore and perhaps in Mysore. Those who keep pet dogs don't rein them in and allow them to harass passersby. If you complain or protest, they behave as if it's your fault and have committed a crime. Their common refrain is, "Kutta kuchh nahi karta (it won't bite)." Kutta kuchh kare na kare, dar tou lagta hai especially if it's barking.

The other day I was walking through a residential street. THREE dogs came towards me barking aggressively and with offensive posture. They were street dogs but since they were indulged by one local man they would obey him. In this case too the man yelled at me only.
