Shanti Shanti Shanti

Most Hindu prayers and almost all the Hindu ritual ends with three words, Shanti, Shanti, Shanti, which means asking for peace around us and in the world.
But why is the Shanti repeated thrice,is there any special reason for it being repeated thrice ?

Re: Shanti Shanti Shanti

My understanding is that we are asking deliverance (peace) from 3 kinds of sufferings. The suffering on which we have no control over (natural calamities), suffering that rises from our physical well-being (health issues), the suffering that arises out of the circumstances that we xreate ourself (i.e fighting with your wife )

Re: Shanti Shanti Shanti

It just sounds good. And it is common with many other religions in the world all around.

Re: Shanti Shanti Shanti

I feel the Shanti thrice is for peace in the three worlds according to the scriptures Swarg lok,Bhu lok,Patal lok, thats heaven, earth and underworld or some may call it hell.

I thought heaven already had Shanti. Why they need Shanti... we need her. And all we get is Shantabai. She should be sent to hell

Re: Shanti Shanti Shanti

I thought one (the first one) Shanti was for peace. Second and third were for Mandira Bedi and Shanti Constructions respectively, but unclear why everyone is forced to chant the last two. I think we should drop them completely and say Shanti only once. Good question though.

Re: Shanti Shanti Shanti

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanti_Mantra

Shanti Mantras always end with three utterances of word "Shanti" which means "Peace". The Reason for uttering three times is for calming and removing obstacles in three realms which are:

"Physical" or Adhi-Bhautika,
"Divine" or Adhi-Daivika and
"Internal" or Adhyaatmika

When I was a kid, My grandpa used to have a havan on every sunday. Our family used to gather around and participate in it. It used to end with a shanti mantra
