Re: National leaders - Who would you bring back today?

I am not trivializing the discussion. I really respect Nehru.

See most of the Indians Youth should be proud of him that he lived a life which most of the Corporate America Bosses dream to live off and that too at a time when India was under foreign rule and he was not a Third World Country cheap Dictator. He existed and did all this in a pure Corporate kind of Setup.

Any GRE Applicant who catches a flight to USA would dream of a lifestyle which Nehru lived. Some of them succeed in Corporate world of America. So we all have a Chacha Nehru hidden in us and thats why when give equal chance we can bang the Whites , both professionally and Literally

I am imagining all sorts of movie scenes with Nehru when he was young. Imagine Nehru in Aitraaz where Priyanka tries to sexually abuse Akshay Kumar

Oh man, Nehru would be a natrual fit.

Then imagine that gay scene in Dostana where John Abraham and Abhishekh Bacchan kiss. Imagine Nehru!

Re: National leaders - Who would you bring back today?

We Indians can respect a leader like Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel but we will always want a Ruler like Nehru as he resembles what Indians or Hindus are.

I am sure Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel would have met the same fate as PV Narasimha Rao if he had lived longer. He died at the most appropriate time.

Indians can never tolerate honest leaders like Patel for long.

Re: National leaders - Who would you bring back today?

1) Sardar Patel + Netaji Subash Bose : needed to clean up the mess and give direction. Also to provide the necessary aggression.
2) Gandhiji : He could bend the country to his will.
3) Nehruji : Great socialist vision, very good for the times of recession.

Sunny, you read my mind. I wanted to post a similar topic named " what is the one thing that you would want to change in India's history that would have made India an advanced country".

My answer was "Iron Man" of India had lived a long and healthy life while JN would have....

Madam trust me, God was so kind to the "Iron Man" Sardar Patel such that he died so early,

else he would have been branded Communal , probably hounded by CBI in some Lakhu Bhai Pathak case and ever untouchable like PV Narasimha Rao

I was saying that If he had lived 10 years more. PV Narasimha Rao was PM between 71-76 years of his life and he lived for 84 years. So he was demonified for last 8 years of his life.

Lal Bahadur. He introduced Green revolution (which is credited most of the times to Indira) and was relaxing some of the extreme socialism that Nehru had built in.

.
Yeah mi got this idea from reading the book "Sardar Patel and Indian Muslims" by "Rafiq Zakaria". Link to book
The book is compilation of lectures given by Zakaria and has direct quotes from M.Gandhi, Sardar, Nehru, Jinnah and many other important figures of the time.

Sardar is often thought to have a anti-muslim stand, but in the book, the author has showed how he followed Gandhi to the word in the beginning and how after seeing betrayal after betrayal from Muslims his stance hardened towards them.
During the time of partition, according to the author, all three leaders were in disagreement and on many occasions, gandhi openly criticized Sardar on his stand and on tough speeches which he gave, According to Gandhi, Sardar was creating hysteria amongst muslims resulting into many hindu-muslim riots.
Gandhi also during his last fast, said that one of the reason for his fast is Sardar attitude towards muslims, to which Sardar promptly replied that may be it is time for him to step back and resign. But gandhi was assasinated before Sardar and Gandhi could come to terms with Sardar's resignation.
What would have happened if Sardar would have resigned?
Even After Gandhi's death, Sardar played many important roles and one of his main roles was to free Hyderabad from Nizam and make it part of India. How would have Hyderabad issue resolved without Sardar and how might things be today without his contribution?

looking at indian politics today, i would like to aggre with you.
But dont you think the figures that we are discussing here had much more impact on Indian then? I think they has much more respect and many ppl loved them than any politician after them. Remember that was a different era, ppl were more for Swaraja, freedom, India than today where ppl give a crap about these things and only run after money.

http://www.go4quiz.com/303/bharat-ratna-awardees-list/

Just see this list and if you really respect Sardar Patel your blood will boil. Sardar Patel got Bharat Ratna in 1991 along with Rajiv Gandhi and ironically by Narasimha Rao's Govt else he would have never got.

What is shameless and pathetic is that the Evangelist and a small time Nun Mother Teresa got this award in 1980 and Sardar Patel got in 1991.

Same Indian people never objected it, what makes us think that if he was implicated in some Lakhu Bhai Pathak kind of case would public have objected to it.

Sardar Patel gets some respect because BJP/RSS/Jansangh supports him heavily else he would have been branded as one of the many side kicks of Chacha Nehru

honesly all these awards and all are just a joke today. I am not saying that individuals who have worked hard and were rewarded by this award do not deserve them, but looking at the individuals who have recently got other such awards, have made me think less of these awards.
I guess what I am trying to say is, i would not guess a persons importance by considering what and when he/she got the award.
But what is interesting to know is how much less ppl know about the great sacrifices and duties performed by many others and not only Nehru and Gandhi.
