Re: Ashdoc's short review---Drishyam ( hindi )

What ways do we have to prevent lechers from exposing the modesty of a woman?

Is there any law or punishment strong enough to deter such pervs, say she goes to police, which is headed by his mother? Already Porn ban removed because of intellectuals claiming infringement of personal rights.

P.S. If you haven't watched the movie, and wish to, don't highlight and read the above text.

Re: Ashdoc's short review---Drishyam ( hindi )

What is the meaning of the name of the movie Drishyam? Other than the obvious 'scene'? Weird name for a movie with a plot of a thriller, sounds like a southie movie name.

I think its a remake of a south film with the same name.

I think the closest fitting English word would be "Perspective". Things appear different from different perspectives.

i have already explained in my review---

from the review---

So why the name Drishyam ( the sighting ) ?? That I think is because Vijay cleverly succeeds in convincing many people that they have sighted him in some other place than where the incident took place on that day , and their alleged 'sightings' of him form a formidable stumbling block in the police investigation .

I must have overlooked that, I tend to read movie reviews cursorily to avoid reading any spoilers.

Devgan plays role of a movieholic in this film. He has this uncanny ability to recognize scenes (drishya) of different movies and he uses this ability of his to get himself and his family out of this murder case, hence the name - Drishyam.

Somewhat similar to Siddu's ability of punching the right joke/quote from his collection at the right time

Re: Ashdoc's short review---Drishyam ( hindi )

Got it, just that I'm not used to Bollywood using heavy words for movie names. Mostly its like 'Love ke liye saala kucch bhi karega', or 'Son of sardaar', 'dum laga ke haisha', 'Singh is King'..

If haven't watched any version, which language version is the best to watch? Original Malayalam?

original is in malayalam? I didn't know that, with same actors, will be strange to watch Devgan speaking malayalam.

I just watched the Malayalam version yesterday... will let you know once I see the other versions as to which one is the best, MemoraryVagaira tai. Just give me a year or two... that's all

Now as to the movie. I think it does not reach expectations. It has been projected as the best movie in recent times... and it is fundoo and fantastic and superb and what not. But there is nothing special about the movie. Just goes about its normal ways. A very simple story... simple people... good acting... good direction... but nothing special.

Like the cool simple country setting... somewhere in god's own country. But I was expecting a more cat-and-mouse story... more bang-for-the-buck movie... which is not there. Don't know if they added all that to the hindi version.

If you are looking for a reference... this one falls more in the category of that Manorama-six feet under movie class.

what a way to know what a movie is like. instead of inches and cm, get to know the length of string in a relative way. Isn't Manorama-6 feet one of the lesser known ones! When it came out, I wished there were more made like it, and by God, Bollywood hasn't disappointed since. Just have to know what to watch, and then find a good print.. and then 2.5 contiguous hours.
