Now the I have your attention ...

Movie personalities make poor legends. To be a legend, one has to find abode in the hearts and minds of people, having caused transformation in to their lives with your actions, in the REAL and not in the REEL world, I think!

Our Pakistani brother Waqarbhai says He is sad at demise of Ashok Kumar. I think we all are very sad. Then Waqarbhai goes farther and insists that Ashok Kumar is a legend. Sorry, I do not agree ... Ashok Kumar was a good artist. He was an upright person, well liked, loved and created for himself an affectionate corner in the hearts and minds of movie watchers. May his soul rest in peace.

LEGEND? NO.

I can not think of anything that makes him stand out among the crowds of history.

Look at this guy Bachchan. Someone for whose life and health an entire continent of billion people stood up and prayed to heavens and NOW just see what such person is wasting it all on. What a shame. He had the god given opportunity to become a living legend but look what he has done with such a great chance of lifetime. Just like dozens before him, he is just a good impersonator and an actor.

To rise above this trash of money and cowdung, use his unique place in the hearts of billions of people takes individualistic effort.
In other words what a waste for he does not have what it takes. .

He is an actor, a good impersonator and that is all he is. Late Ashok Kumar too was a good one. He was a good man. He was a talented artiste.

What’s going on guys? Chutiatic Aurangia can cause such a puff ball ! Let’s get out of this lull, shall we? I notice A. Bachchan holds a very delicate place among our echarchan men, women and children. Let me try ...

YES i am with u tantric yogi, AMITABH is a legend is just due to his mad fans and his luck otherwise he is just an ordinary actor having average acting skills , on his peak he acts just angry man or some comedy roles, his personality is also not charismatic, actually the real legend of bollywood is GREAT DILIP KUMAR, amitabh can even not touch DILIP JEE'S foot as far as acting skills and personality is concerned, putting ordinary amitabh's dummy in the madam tassu's museum is great unfairness with GREAT DILIP KUMAR , amitabh is just an ordinary man and average actor and all those people who love him like a god are really mad.

newayz..

tantric, all i ask from u is a lil bit of maturity while addresing sensitive issues..

u just cant blurt out stuff without having sufficient material to back it up.

and please, b4 callin some1 something please cross check...would really appreciate it.

ya i admit i must've over-reacted a bit..but man,u just cAnt use the degrading of Big B so as to improve an echarcha day for christs sake.

i hate all these war or words and crap..its just not in mah nature nemore..

so,sorry for all the abuses, but i demand that u act as a responsible person while posting stuff since u r a moderator here.

I would have had absolutely no probs with another person abusing AB or ne1 (like that ball-less paki cool ice) coz that kindda person just doesnt matter to me..he's nothing...

but u have an accountable position here and u just cAnt pull of stunts like this 1 to improve echarcha mood.

desibaba shame

desibaba you are a faggot...just cause u r cursing doesn't mean that you are right...tantric has his right to post his view without you sticking his ass and flaming him...i also say amitabh is not a legend..he would have been if he didn't do movies like mrityudand, lal badshah and countless others...he was a great actor and those can be seen in anand, deewar, zanjeer, sholay and other movies but his angry-young man image didn't last very much...his stardom is all due to his fans not his acting skills, some of the better actors were ashok kumar, utpal dutt, sanjeeb kumar, vinod mehra, hell even dharmendra was a better actor....but recently amitabh's standards have gone way down....who the **** would want to see amitabh doing "shaba shaba" at age 80 in KKKG

K3G

A. Bachchan and his latest K3G

cut/paste
ONLY IN AMERICA/CHIDANAND RAJGHATTA

TIMES NEWS NETWORK [ SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, 2002 12:30:03 AM ]

n a freezing cold winter evening of sub-zero temperature last month, a queue about a city block long snaked out in front of the Loehmann’s twin cinema in Arlington, Virginia, outside Washington DC. An assortment of shivering folk jostled to buy tickets for Kabhi Khushi Khabhi Gham.

What was striking about the gathering was not only did it consist of film-hungry NRIs, but also a good smattering of other nationalities. Pakistanis, certainly, but also Afghans, Iranians, Arabs, a few Americans, and lone Chinese who happened to be my companion for the expedition.

By the time we had gotten around to seeing K3G, it had already entered Bollywood folklore as a mega-hit, bigger outside India than within. The stats were impressive. The most expensive Bollywood movie ever made at $10 million, its $1.37-million North American opening weekend had put it within striking distance of the top ten films listed by industry journals.

In Britain, where much of movie is shot, it brought in 500,000 pounds in its first week, placing it at No. 3 on the nation’s box-office list — two places down from Harry Potter. After the first fortnight, it had brought in more than $5 million outside India, recovering half the production cost.

In several Bollywood movies, the hero or heroine now seem to come from England or America, when they are not visiting Australia or New Zealand. Its clear Bollywood filmmakers have now discovered a box-office motherlode outside India and are milking it for all it is worth.

Some critics have panned this NRI-sation of Bollywood, chafing at the offshore pop patriotism it is engendering. As far as I am concerned, better that than nothing. Besides, for every mushy NRI wallowing in absentee nationalism (and green bucks), there are many more RNIs (Resident Non-Indians) back home soaking up MTV, English football, and McDonalds.

That’s a whole other debate altogether. What’s interesting is that Bollywood now has a window of opportunity to go beyond the NRI community or the diaspora. Increasingly, more and more non-South Asians are beginning to trickle in for a taste of Bollywood bathos.

For all the contempt some of India’s intelligentsia has for the mush from Mumbai, its storylines of love, honour, values have universal appeal. My Chinese friend sat riveted to the three-and-a-half hour epic, and at the end of it all declared that she liked it better than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

A fortnight later, she had seen ten other Indian movies on DVD and video, including Dil Se, Taal, Satya, Bombay and Chandni Bar. At this point, I suggested she watch Sholay, to my mind the Bollywood equivalent of Gone with the Wind in terms of box office longevity.

A short while into the movie, she announced that she had seen it as a kid. It transpires that back in the 1970s, China’s state run television did show an occasional Indian movie before the culture police banned them.

In the past few years, I have seen Bollywood fare (and also live telecast of cricket) in countries ranging from Israel to Ivory Coast. K3G was released simultaneously on 600 screens in India and 200 overseas, including select theatres in Belgium, Holland, Norway, and Germany.

In the US, it opened on 73 screens, including mainline movie theatres such as the Loews in New York City’s Times Square, AMC theaters in Chicago and at Imax in Toronto.
The American media too is beginning to take notice. The Chicago Tribune routinely reviews Bollywood movies, and its critic has rhapsodised over Yaadein, Lagaan and K3G among other films.

Despite its prolific output — 800 films a year —the Indian movie industry, at about $300 million takings last year — is still a distant second to the $10 billion Hollywood monster. A film like Titanic alone grossed twice Bollywood’s entire earnings.

But with improving production values, better marketing, advertising and distribution, it may not be long before Bollywood hits the billion-dollar mark. Besides, and think about this, Bollywood, and not the battalions massed on the border, may turn out to be India’s crouching tiger and hidden dragon.
