Talking Are you planning on a honeymoon? Here is a step-by-step guide!

Since I am thinking of revamping NRIMilan.Com I was looking at what other sites have. I stumbled upon this article on one of them.

I wont comment but you read on . Its quite a lot to read.

After reading this, I wonder if the author will also give me tips on 'what I should actually do' on my honeymoon

Travel Tips

Destination Paradise: Beg, borrow, steal.
But plan a honeymoon you'll never forget!

Whether it's walking hand-in-hand along a white sandy beach with your loved one, relaxing in a quaint rustic cottage in the wilderness, or indulging in luxury - honeymoons mean love. It's memories will always keep romantic fires burning in your hearts forever. So plan it well and have the time of your life.

Plan Together...
A honeymoon is probably the most romantic time for a couple. Opt for a place that pleases you both and have a holiday that will leave you relaxed, satisfied and very much in love.

Do you like a long stretch of beach or city skyscrapers? Would you like a secluded area? A dream honeymoon is usually a combination of scenic beauty, exotic cuisine and romantic leisure time. With a little forethought and advance planning - this dream can be yours. So pre-decide a destination that intrigues both of you.

Sahil and Mona are both sports loving. They met in 2003 and married in Dec 2004. They both love water sports and the sensation of being in water was their perfect idea of romance. "So we planned our honeymoon near the seaside but made sure that the place was accessible to other scenic places as well. We combined our love for water sports with sight seeing and also some quiet times in our cottage. This way we had variety and lots of romantic time together. We pre-decided our honeymoon and with a little planning we had the best holiday we could dream of", muses the couple.

A honeymoon can be as stimulating and adventurous as you want.
If you want the luxury of a resort on the sea then a cruise is the best solution. There are many options to choose from and you can have the leisure of extravagant dining, individual activities, relaxing days and lively nights.

There are theme honeymoons like Disney dream honeymoons, beach honeymoon, lonely planet honeymoons etc. A little expensive but again it is all about the amount of money you are willing to splurge.

Other honeymoon plans can be like:
  • Beaches and unique treasures of quiet islands;
  • Water sports places;
  • Camping and hiking areas;
  • Sightseeing and touring;
  • Island hopping;
  • Adventure places or African safari or
  • Simple relaxing places where you two can be in solitude.
It just takes a little thought and planning to turn your special day into a fairy tale. Remember to always take time to relax, spend lazy days together or have a splash at the fabulous restaurants and book early to avoid any disappointments.

Wish List...
Ask a few questions to yourself and your fiancÚ in advance:
  • Any places you both have dreamt of going;
  • How much money are you willing to spend?
  • How much solitude you prefer and what kind of evenings you like;
  • The cuisine you both prefer;
  • The accommodation you prefer;
  • The climate you would like;
  • How much time you have for your honeymoon, and
  • What kind of indulgences you want included in your honeymoon like a shopping spree, spa sessions, gourmet dining etc.
Once you have arrived at the answers keep ticking off the points that are contradictory and arrive at all the answers agreeable to both.

Now start looking around for travel agents and some package deals. Sometimes friends and family can guide you. Take tips from everybody. It helps. Have a look at travel magazines, travel websites and brochures of travel agents. You will find several package offers but make sure that you are aware of hidden cost in such deals.

Visit a travel agent and be specific about your needs. Tell him in advance the day you wish to travel, the time you would like to stay, the money you would like to spend, the airline and travel arrangements you prefer and what arrangements you want in the room before you arrive. Like champagne and flowers to be in the room before you arrive.

Planning your trip
Once you have decided on your destination - work out a suitable budget for your honeymoon. Be sure to book your plane tickets and accommodation. Make a note of all reservation and receipt numbers so that you will always have a point of reference if anything goes wrong. Include a list of phone numbers for all the places you will be staying during your trip.

A package deal in a cruise vacation may include everything but make sure what items are included and excluded. This way you can make an addition of any service you require in advance. Costs are according to the location to be visited and the cabin accommodations.

Marriage is a cumbersome function and many newlyweds get very tired with months of planning and all the ceremonies. So opt for an all-inclusive resort. "All-inclusive" means everything is included in your price. These resorts are usually nestled in a picturesque place and take care of all your relaxation needs.

Travel with any medication you require. Know the weather conditions of the place you are visiting, as you need to pack appropriate clothing.

Requirements
If travelling overseas make sure your passport is valid and remember that the names on your plane tickets must match the names on your passport. When booking your plane tickets, be sure to use your maiden name.

Apply for necessary visas well in advance.

You need to shop for many things like electrical adaptors, film for your camera, batteries and sunscreen. Also some essentials like evening dresses, casual clothes and sexy lingerie. Make it you most unforgettable and romantic holiday.

Organize your credit cards and make sure they are valid. It is a good idea to purchase some currency of the country you are visiting and some traveller's cheques.

Once your reservations have been confirmed - hand out a copy of your itinerary to a friend or relative. Include a list of phone numbers so that you can be reached in a case of emergency. If you are going away for more than a month, arrange to have your bills paid and make sure any outstanding bills have been paid for.

Make sure any pets are taken care of while you are away. Ask a friend to keep an eye on your house and to stop by to water plants and pick up any mail. Alternately, you can get your mail forwarded to a friend or relative's house for the duration of your trip.

Pack bags in advance to avoid any confusion. Confirms the travel details once again before departure.

Step by step...
Six months before your honeymoon;
  • Arrange leave from your office well in advance. Complete your pending office work so that you can be on a holiday in a relaxed mind;
  • Make reservations;
  • Apply for necessary visa, passports and any immunizations if needed;
  • Make a tentative packing list;
  • Check your bank balance and make sure you have enough money reserved for your honeymoon.
Four weeks before your honeymoon;
  • Reconfirm all travel and hotel booking reservation;
  • Start shopping for the items you may need;
  • Organize travel insurance. Check your credit cards. If your credit cards do not work try to organize travelers cheque.
  • Arrange for someone to take care of your pet, if any and also your house if possible.
A week before you go:
  • Start packing;
  • Store valuables and documents in a safe place
  • Have someone check you mail regularly.
A day before you leave:
  • Reconfirm all the hotel booking, flight timing, pet-care arrangements
  • Make a note of all the important phone numbers you may need in case of emergency;
  • Leave your contact details with a close friend or relative in case of any problem;
  • Pack you bags and start dreaming about the time you will have with your partner.
  • Carry scented candles, bubble baths and incense to create an extravagant setting within your hotel room.
Flow with the flaw...
Despite planning it well your honeymoon can have some unexpected flaws. The cuisine may not be right; there may be some more hidden costs. It's always best to talk to the manager of the place. If nothing is taken care of, call the travel agent. Submit a written complaint in the hotel register. Keep an account of what went wrong and have patience to come back and talk to your travel agent. But despite all this remember to relax and not spoil your honeymoon. Don't let problems catch you up and enjoy the romantic times together.

The right coordination of planning can work wonders for your time together and make your honeymoon memorable.

Not kidding here but this really happened with a guy I knew.

There was this dude I knew... Gupta/ Garg... something like that... Baniya.

He got married to this ultra conservative/ religious chick. Guess where they went. Vaishno Devi.

It seems the girl had made a vow to god (mannat maangi thi) that if she gets married to this guy she wud make a trip to Vaishno devi.

Imagine, Honey moon in Vaishno Devi.

hah...some interesting possibilities arise

1) Guptaji could have been busy lighting his "batti" and Mrs. Gupta got some Mr.Prasad

2) Guptaji actually gave Mrs.Gupta the prasad

3) While Guptaji was busy lighting his "batti", the priest gave the prasad to Mrs.Gupta.
