Book suggestions needed (Indian Authors)

All, can you please suggest me some of the books which were written by Indian Authors? I will be traveling soon and I want to buy a few books and bring them here.

I have the below one's in my list already:

1. Grandma and the Great Gourd (Chitra Divakaruni)
2. Chanakya's Chant (Ashwin Sanghi)
3. Jaya (Devdutt Pattanaik)
4. The Twentieth Wife (Indu Sundaresan)
5. When Hari met Sally (on Dirty's recommendation).
6. the Glass Palace (Amitav Ghosh)

I love books based on mythology and fiction.

Please also publish rules and regulations of library you plan on opening after coming back. I might want to subscribe.

I agree with Sarvi, I am not a big fan her recipes.
And by the way, so typical. Why did you suggest me a cook book?

Re: Book suggestions needed (Indian Authors)

Take a pick from my reads over a long time

1 River Sutra by Gita Mehta (NRI daughter of Biju Pattanaik). It is a collection of stories on Narmada like one fast car loving playboy turning into a Jain Monk

2. India Unbound by Gurcharan Das, a critique on the licence permit raj with some suggestions on developing India

3 Autobiography of Khushwant Singh (forgot its name). Sexual escapades of KS plus his ringside view of Indian History

4. "India in slow motion" by Mark tully (He is as good as an Indian). Another ringside view of India

5. Saucy near porn by Shobha De - Starry Nights or Sisters.

There is also a lot else i have not read.
Top of the mind that comes is 'Raag Darbari' (google for the author). There is also 'No full stops in India' by Mark tully

Thanks so much! I am going to skip Shobha De as I have read almost all her books. She is India's Sydney Sheldon.

Do you know any place I can buy these books in Hyderabad or Goa? Last time I bought most of the books at the airport on my way back and they were charging at least double (since it was from airport).

In Hyderabad, there is one Himalaya book depot near Panjagutta X Roads (almost opposite Central Mall). Else, book stores are there at quite a few places generally all over India.

Re: Book suggestions needed (Indian Authors)

Haven't read many Indian authors. Just the Shiva Trilogy and an older book, "White Tiger" or something. Forget the author name but the writing style reminded me very much of our own Tantricpaaji pai... or his hum-shakal, Badrisipariad pai.
