Online chess...how often do you play chess?

For some reason I was never into chess. I know the basics and all but never really played seriously. Lately when I am too bored at work I play a game. Did anyone ever win an easy chess game against computer? I am so discouraged...I never won so far!

You need to anticipate moves in advance . It just needs practice . But before you play full games you need to play those chess tricks and puzzles to get a feel of the moves . There are a ton of books on that . Some chess softwares also support these kind of chess puzzles .

Re: Online chess...how often do you play chess?

No one taught me chess actually, I leart it online. I had always felt insecure about playing chess with anyone and hence played only against computer. And invariably the computer beats me down. Some day I have to gather my courage to play against human.
Its just one of those fears you never seem to leave behind. Just like me and my habit of driving too close to the curb.

Re: Online chess...how often do you play chess?

well playing against human should be more easier . Computers are always equipped with a permutation/combination algorithm which can help it decide all possible outcomes before it plays .

But ofcourse a a high ranked player is as good as a computer .

Re: Online chess...how often do you play chess?

first step is playing against human, there is always error involved and if u can exploit it u win. Then go with computer, cause there is no error there.
What version are u playing? There are so many games available, so cannot say what is the quality of ur version hence cannot comment whether easy is beatable or no

Try www.freechess.org, there are a lot of Chu.. out there, you should be able to beat some of them. The lower the rating, the worse the player, so pick up games with low ranking player, beat them a few times, that would boost your confidence, and then slowly graduate to the next level

How do some people know complicated tactics, highly advanced planning? Is it natural skill or are they trained?

When I used to play all I would do was taking of opponent’s pieces and some simple plans to checkmate.

I am observing how the computer is making its first 10 moves. Most of the time, it seems like this itself determines the winner. Sometimes i really wish i had a photographic memory to remember all its moves.

Khaski, thanks for the website. I will try to log in there sometime soon.

not many have....chess comes from practice. The more u play the more u can see through moves. The most important is to counter all the moves of opponent. Remember, if playing with a good player, each move is done with idea in mind. Good players never waste any move, so when playing with them try to decode their moves. And remember there are always backups when playing with good players.
All this will come more from playing. So keep on playing with players, yahoo has rating games,...so got there and there u will see all range of players.
