annoying virus

For last couple of weeks my laptop has been infected by an annoying virus.
I click anywhere on the page - link or no link - a new window is opened.
There are some advertisements in that window. Nothing harmful but very annoying.
I searched on net for this kind of virus and it seems to be a common virus.
Remedy given is to uninstall unwanted programs. Problem is , I don't have any unwanted programs. I have gone through the list of programs many times (Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs).

I have Windows 8 . As it is, it is painful without virus. With virus , it is very very annoying.

Any ideas?

Re: annoying virus

Your anti-virus program didn't remove or quarantine it?

Check your all programs when you press the windows button. See if it shows up any unwanted stuff.

Yes - my anti-virus program does not do anything about it. I have Norton.
Maybe I need to get other one.

Checking for programs again...

Hard ways out

When the annoying window appears, open the task manager and check for all the "Processes" running. this program might be one of them.

Or, you could use Badriji's favorite browser, Mozilla.

Re: annoying virus

Two or four things I would suggest,..

1.
If this happened 2-3 days ago,… reboot your computer go to safe mode, and restore the old storage points and that will bring your computer to that stage and will nullify the recent problem,.. ( restore points are nicely restored from safe mode, so do it from there only )

2.
download the best of the best and free ASC advanced system care, free for download ,.. ( in Belolw link :: the first one, where total download is 11 crores )
http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=advance+dsystem+care&platform=Windows%2CMac%2CiOS%2CAndroid%2CWebware%2CMobile&tag=srch&searchtype=download s

Clean with that,.. ASC package.

3.
Open any IE browser,.. in upper right corner, click on "tools" and then ‘management addons,..’

Now,.
In left column, choose “ show : all add ons “

Read and study each one by one,.. ( especially new ones ) IF any doubtful / unknown names,….
Highlight that, and in lower right corner press the button to “ disable” it,
Save it and reboot computer,..

4.
Free download “ super antispyware “ ( free addition ) and try to clean with that,.,
Run it from safe mode and " do complete screeing " - from safe mode, this guy finds the smallest problems. ( see third item in below link )
http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0...type=downloads

------------

Do not download anything from other than below reliable site. ( Or, they will add their own viruses ) - search in the search box there, anything you want - It's Cnet's reliable website
www.download.com ( also known as cnet's web site )

THE BEST THING TO DO IS, NOT CLEANING,
BUT FROM THE SAFE MODE, IF SOMEHOW YOU COULD RESTORE THE OLD STORAGE POINT, THAT WILL AUTOMATICALLY REMOVE ALL THE PROBLEMS,..

My personal experience is,.. ( concluded, after 15+ yrs of computer uses )
you need to have to have,.. following free softwares which are top-most best and free, and with these three and Norton, I never needed anymore as they are all master pieces,..

ASC ( Advanced system care ) - must use once in every 2-3 days
Spybot S and D - do not need to use/run it, as it controls automatically having it there.
Super antispyware - must use once in every 5 days

Re: annoying virus

The best way to remove these pesky ad wares is to use adblock on chrome or firefox and to make a point to not to use Internet Explorer.

Re: annoying virus

You are probably infected with a trojan virus. It is worst experience as it starts taking up controls of PC one by one. There are specialised tools available for this type of problems.

It hit my laptop many years back when I resorted to online help forum. No genuine antivirus was able to delete this shitty programmes...

Try at this forum: www.techsupportforum.com if you cant get rid of it.

You are in IT ... I should be the last person ... but whatever this may or not be worth to you ... years of experience self learned mostly.

1. You should be able to upgrade 8 to 8.1 ... its a beaut, once you give yourself few days to get acquainted with it.

2. Firefox ... get addons ... adblocker and flash blocker ...

3. I will turn off windows defender and norton/McAfee. You have choice of many excellent and robust virus protection software for free, why would you settle for 2nd bests? First thing I do with new laptop is uninstall Norton/McAfee which comes added like a leach ...

4. Install a good firewall ... so many for free.

4. Install CCleaner ... done ... install CCEnhancer ... done ... check uncheck appropriate ... clean the system.

5. Now serious business ... download superantispyware ... free ... update and run. Done ... run whatever virus cleaner you chose to install. Done. Not yet happy? Malwarebytes ... free. Not yet happy? ... login in safe mode and repeat the process. Not yet happy? There is more ... let's get this done away with.

Jagmohan ... I wouldn't download nothing from CNET or Download ... yes, few years ago was okay. Now first thing it does is install some sort of application on your system ... no good. Most free software's have own websites to download. Yes, you can visit CNET/Download to read user reviews of software you wish to download/install ... fuck positive reviews, read negative first.

Spyboat ... it was one of the best and popular ... no more ... worthless now.

Superantispyware ... yes agree, current best alonwith Malwarebytes.

Re: annoying virus

Badri Prasad ji , I agree and disagree with somewhat you said,..

Here is my conclusion,..

1.
Techsupportforums.com is the best help and in the past I used them a lot,.
The best net-tech help ever,.. to ask anything,.
They got best expertise there, be patient and do not try to bring your post up, as they start helping from back pages.

2.
I have been using the PC for last 18+ years on many many computers,.. and after experimenting many I concluded with the three packages I mentioned,.. rest I had used many such as zone alarm, Ad aware lavasoft ad pop-up, AVG anti virus,.. pc doctor, and tons of others which were garbage / not much needed efficiency wise,..as they had loose grip,..
and was holding and slowing down too much,… and itself were acting as virus,…

3. ASC , I am totally satisfied ( on you tube, in search box type the management license code for ASC, Super anti spyware etc ) and it works and makes it professional,. Both are excellent,…

Spybot S and D you HAVE TO HAVE. Period. It controls 150+K disorders and you do not need to scan using it so often as its presence already controls,. Just like NAV.
  • CCcleaner I used in the past was good, but many a times,.. it was working foul/felony and all of a sudden would find many problems and would delete all of a sudden many important OS files,. So beware,… it happened to me many a times.. if it finds 40+ disorder, means do not clean that stage,. Re-scan it again. Be aware.
Later I am using this guy for fast general cleaning and use 5-6 times a day, and does a fast cleaning with no error ever ( using for last 10+ ysr now ) and that replaces ccleaner well,..

Windows cleanup 4.5.2 – a private guy’s package
It’s free – 10 times better than ( CCleaner - dangerous smtms )
http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?Itemid=223&id=29&option=com_content&task=view

  • The best bet is whenever any problem or corruption happens in any PC,…. Do not try to clean the virus, but without doing much work,.. IMMEDIATELY reboot in safemode and try to restore the previous stage, immediately,. And QUIT WASTING TIME AND EFFORT TO FIXING AND RMOVING VIRUSES OR CORRUPTION.
  • Run any programs in safemode ( once in a month , overnight ) and over night, be it AV or any spyware program, as no disorders can hide behind the OS files.
  • If you have any package of say NAV or MacAfee, officially bought with right code nos, and such,.. call them,.. and they will help you, to download something from their web, made a CD of it or even in a flash drive and they will explain you how to boot with it, and thoroughly clean yr computer, using that, which will scan all the root and OS files as it the boots up with minimal files and even in dos,… so call them,. They are cooperative, and always help you, if you provide them any reliable purchase of their stuff.
  • I agree,..if you can download Adobe / Videolan.org ( VLC media player ), spybot . super anti spyware,.. from their own org web site directly, no need to download from C-Net,… but still Cnet is still reliable so far I understand,..
  • Malwarebytes I have heard from many, not used yet,.. since ASC and Super antispyware and Spybot control sall with latest windown update and NAV already there.
  • Also learn how to use and check, “windows add-on management”, as if someone, inserted there something with your approval somewhere, even no package will clean it. So go there,…and disable anything doubtful ( with their obvious strange names )
  • youtube.com - in searchbox, type any codes for anything,. An din video and below’ it’s description, you find many codes of many packages, that work. ( do not install patch and *.exe files garbage ) Use and try only 16 digits code for ASC and super anti spyware, which works,.. ( to make it professional / pro )
Also ASC now gives a package called ” driver booster “ free
and that’s a free boon, as it automatically finds any latest drivers available for any of your PC accessories and does update automatically – a Greeeeeeeaaaaat Boon, that I was ever looking for.
  • I am in love with this guy’s small and sweet package and use 10 times a day for last 10 yrs not a single problem,.. ( CCleaner is risky and smtms deletes a boat-load of imp files )
Windows cleanup 4.5.2 – a private guy’s package
It’s free – 10 times better than ( CCleaner - dangerous smtms )
http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?Itemid=223&id=29&option=com_content&task=view ( can download from here, get your "initial options settings" right, and make sure that you have not tick-marked 'favorites'- to delete,.. etc )

Always check your “ add or remove programs ( control panels ) “ and delete all unnecessary garbage,.. be it google tool bar / dell tool bar / yahoo tool bar and weather strip, and many games and tons of virus stuff -- you do not need they are all unnecessary crap )

Always check your "management add-ons" for currently 'enabled' stuff
and make sure that some foul virus is not allowed there to be "enabled" , and fakking you out of your knowledge,
for which no spyware would even do anything, as they are allowed by YOU, with permission granted.

...

Did you chk yr control panel thoroughly (?),.. ( look alphabatically under "V" ) there is a software which is " "video-something / vid-share " listed as, and it does this kind of things,..

------------------

Too many pop ups ads control :

To Control too many Pop Up ads after the Windows installation showing up on you tube page, elsewhere ( which also says in small letter below that, this ad is not by this site ) and many other “Text Enhance” ads :

1. Go to the control panel and if you see the software named vid-share, remove it.

2. If some text-words is high lighted as a link automatically, and a rectangle box opens-up as an Ad, as for example the word Production, that problem is known as “ Text Enhance” ad virus,….. Read on net about it.

To control it, open any internet explorer browser, click Tools, Management options, click button of “ Toolbars and Extensions” look at below of that button and,…select the option of , show “ All add ons ” and read all the names carefully if it shows some odd names, ( I want it,… etc. ) and still remains enabled. So, either disable them , or if you are sure,.. remove it.

You can also stop, Yahoo, Goggle and Dell Toolbars also from here.
If you see some add-on there, which is not clear, if it’s a virus,… search goggle with e.g. “ discuss add on “ and you will find all answers

To control the management add ons,…

On any internet web page, click tools, internet options, Programs tab, and “ manage add ons” button and check if anything abnormal there.

Thanks guyz for all suggestions. Virus is still there. Doing full scan located it and I removed it after that. but it seems to have come back.

I will try some of the suggestions in coming days.
Badri, how do you know I am in IT?

Re: annoying virus

^^ best bet would be,
whatever the reliable cd you have,..
MacAfee or Norton
call them on their toll free,..and tell that,…. despite of buying and using yr package , I am in problem,.

..............and their tech dept will help you to take you to their web sites and will help you making some emergency special, an independent boot-scanning,. will make for you a separate CD / in flash drive,.
That can boot up your PC with that, and will thoroughly clean any disorders right from the boot file,
before logging into windows. . They are very assistive and co-operative and their tech dept. will help you for free .

[ Provided, you have already tried cleaning yr PC in 'safe mode' with above 4-5 programs been mentioned by me and Badri ji ]
