Re: Should prosttution be legalised ?

Hello, hello, why are we assuming that only WOMEN will be the legalized prostitutes.

If we want to shake up the society by legalizing prostitution, we should make it legal for all the genders : Female, Male and Chakkas..

Any lawyer amongst us? can you frame a draft of the "Renting of Human Bodies for Sexual Pleasure Act, 2009" also known as the "EC Act".

no ,marriage will not be obsolete.

prostitutes will still be looked down upon and men will require respectable women to get married and have children.

Kinda true... how many of us have heard this reasoning... "Men marry for sex, women for love/marital security". If the former part is true then why would Men want to marry. Full freedom, no obligations, nobody bugging you day and night, no long shopping trips, nobody asking you to buy them jewelry or giving you advice not to scratch ur bum or balls... imagine what a revolution all this could bring.

No, it doesn't. For one, how long can you keep on paying to get milk and at what risk?

Most importantly, after sometime, men need the safety and security of a "home", which is possible only when you are married. You will need the stability, just like a women. Unless you are referring to cheating on wife, you cannot deny the fact that you need women at home not only for sexual purpose but also to share your day to day life. You need the companionship of women which you cannot get from a sex worker.

Re: Should prostitution be legalised ?

Sorry Ashdoc...not sure how your name got quoted.

Smellyfinger and Dhurandhar, I just did a little more research. According to the latest reports, prostitution is legal in India. It is the "procuring" which is illegal. In India, even today, the divorce rate is far less that any other country. The concept of marriage/family bonds is still very strong. Now, how can it be said that the institution of marriage becomes obsolete when prostitution is legal in India?

Procuring: (running a brothel deriving financial gain from the prostitution of another, facilitating the prostitution of another etc). Taken from wiki.

Why not have a room mate? Male or female? Why do you need a wife?

These are all paradigms built around the males desire for easily acessible sex as well as societal mores. If prostitution is legal and socially acceptable, more and more men would choose not to get married. Not saying ALL men, but more than current. Which will leave more unmarried women, hence more potential prostitutes So the system would feed on itself (the last part is a joke, dont get your panties in a bunch )

Females think they are a bigger part of a man's life than being a sex toy and maid. Sometimes its true, sometimes not.

You mean like live-in's? They are already doing that in India isn't it? Especially in cities, you will find that it is very common. It is also the choice of females in this case. They are educated and can fend for themselves. So, they are not economically dependent on male.

No, more and more men would NOT choose to "not-get-married". They will, like women, postpone marriage, like its already happening now. But after a particular point, they will need the commitment on paper.
More unmarried women doesn't mean that they are prostitutes. It just means that they are as liberal in thoughts as males. For the record, a decade or two ago, getting married between 21 and 25 is considered a "good time". Now if someone is getting married at 21, we say, "why so early". Paradigm shift towards the age, yes. Not towards marriage itself.

I think dry-wash (divorce ) rate is lesser in India due to reasons other than belief in the institution of marriage.

Reasons: Many women are still not financially independent, society's pressure on women to remain married, family pressure, etc etc etc

Western countries the women generally are financially not dependent on men... attitudes have changed because of this... have you heard that song by Beyonce... Irreplacable... she goes to her BF...

I could have another you in a minute
Matter fact, he'll be here in a minute, baby
You must not know 'bout me
You must not know 'bout me
I could have another you by tomorrow
So don't you ever for a second get to thinkin'
Your irreplaceable

I am not too sure about where your are heading. But what I am trying to say is the marriage and prostitution are two separate entities all together. If prostitution is made legal (ITS ALREADY LEGAL IN INDIA), the institution of marriage itself will not become obsolete.

Actually this topic will require a lot of research. Its kind of hard to argue given limited facts and figures.
