How often do you change your Laptop/Notebook/ultrabook/mabook/whateverbook

Which laptop et al are you using now, which brand what model and configuration and OS and when will replace it?

What will you do to your old one?

What approx is the shelf life of your lappie for you ie how often do you get tempted to replace it?

Why do you mostly put sentences as thread titles ?

Re: How often do you change your Laptop/Notebook/ultrabook/mabook/whateverbook

I had Gateway before , which I used for almost 6 years . I had to replace it because of a hardware fault I could not quite point out .

Currently I have a Lenovo going on for past 3 years.

Most engineering laptops are pretty robust and last quite long time . The only problem is the battery which needs to be replaced every 2 years , or you will start using it as a desktop .

Re: How often do you change your Laptop/Notebook/ultrabook/mabook/whateverbook

What do you do with your old laptop....keep it as a stepknee...lying dumped somewhere....donate or sell or gift it to someone you know needs...with desktops there is no such issue....one can always upgrade .....I have been upgrading since 2003 and in the process sometimes ek kay do banaa kay doosray teesray chauthay kamro may daal deta hoon.....as all in ones for tv audio video pictures backup personal data stuff...baychnay may chillaR nahin milaygee and otherwise surveillance et al may ghar ki achchi khaasi chaukidaari kartay hain...I still have one fully functional crt monitor on one of them....

Connecting all mother boards together so the behave as one computer.. Hell of a lot faster given each task gets a bigger chunk of processor as there are multiple ones. I have a 1 + 4 setup 1M4S.

It is lan but not lan.. lan is multi comp communicating here multiple mbs acting as 1 Comp.. They are known as beowulf clusters.

Can clusrering be done on windows too ki unix flavours are the only options...how are the maa kay takhtays connected...an actual physical connection....through bluetooth...what about ram ...does it simply adds up or what...I mean only like terms xan be added...u can add kilomerers to kilomerers not kg...rams may be of different fsb class category et al...the lowest capable one would bring in the bottleneck effect...

Pelu sub details may bataa giving configuration of each laptop... step by step ki kaisay joRna hai.so while starting one laptop chaaro ko start karna parta hoga...multiple displays is cool....

Also state pros and cons of your clustering...

Who else here is into clustering?

Well there are many ways.. you can have dedicated peripherals (disk, monitor, mems for each cpu which is NOT exactly a 100% cluster but with MCPUHI's it can be done as close as a real one though) but usually a cluster will have one set of peripherals (except mem) and the disk etc will be shared and the Master takes care of load balancing.. But as I said, different folks different strokes.. to each his own.. I mean it will depend on the way program is written (i.e is it parallized) or is it not that easy.. and then there are many other factors.
Memory can be configured as a span or a rack or a block.. there are hazaar ways yaar.. the best will depend on the need (majority of work),

Widows bhayaa apun anaadi hai.. but I cannot see why it cannot be done unless MS is tight assed about it or to allow such a possiblity (I can see how it can hurt their bottom line) they do however allow sharing peripherals like one person able to access another's harddisk or even laungh a probram as long as a local instance exists.. lunux mein aisa koi locha nahi hai and even better it behaves great if some machines are Mac procs.. so you can mate intel and mac processors with out much dramebaazi.

Ab yaar pura lecture to idhar impossible hai. Widows ka windows log hi bata sakte hain.. Linux, world is the limit..

Re: How often do you change your Laptop/Notebook/ultrabook/mabook/whateverbook

And yes they are connected by lan ports (pref a high speed lan hub) and there is a possiblity of connecting over PCI but that is hell of a lot iffyer.. I tried it once it worked but it is waaaay too complicated for the net results.. i.e results are not THAT great to justify the complexity and they are not stable..

Over USB/WIFI it is not worth at all.. sab laude lag jaayega. See havai jahaz mein tractor ke chakke ke mafik.. the data transfer speed will kill the processor speed gain.. i.e tranfer of data will be so slow, any gains achieved will be nullified.

Couple boards with high speed bus (solaris) are great but fukking expensive and the idea for cluster is to have supercomputereqe speed at low cost.. to matbal hi nahi banta.. sun ultra ko combine karke koi fayda nahi naa hai.. Well for military et al where processing speed needs to be in few thousands of giga flops makes sense but then datatransfer uski gand mar dega.. so all in all.. let me put it as this.. pura ramayan likhne ke baad ye bataana chahataa thaa ki sita raam ki behen nahi thi. Samjhaa.. it is a poor man's pseudo super comp.
