Did they need a visa just to stay in the airport or they wanted to explore Aashiji's gaon?

Just for being in the airport, is what I didn't get.. 4 hours is not plenty to roam around, even so I recall requiring transit visa only for stepping out or for like more than 23 hours layovers.

My father checked with the embassy in New Delhi and they said they'd have to get a transit visa.

This is listed on Canada govt's website.

Do I need a visa if I am travelling through Canada without stopping or visiting?

If you need a visa to visit Canada, then you need a transit visa to travel through Canada without stopping or visiting. This is true even if you are in Canada for less than 48 hours. There is no fee for a transit visa. You can apply for a transit visa by filling out the application for a visitor visa (Temporary Resident Visa) and selecting transit visa from the list of options on the form.

If you need an eTA to visit Canada, then you also need an eTA to transit through Canada without stopping or visiting. An eTA costs $7 CAD and it only takes a few minutes to apply for one.

You may not need a transit visa or an eTA if you travel to or from the United States. The Transit Without Visa program (TWOV) and the China Transit Program (CTP) allow certain foreign nationals to transit through Canada on their way to and from the United States without a Canadian transit visa or eTA, if they meet certain requirements. (Indians don't qualify for TWOV)

may be if travelers miss the flight or there is a severe delay, they don't have to process transit visa in a hurry?

Most airports (like Heathrow and Pearson) have many hotels with in the airport and they dont really need to step out anywhere.

If they are charging for the transit visa, then i could understand from the money perspective but this is free. I just don't get it.

Re: DATV needed for someone flying through LHR to USA

I ventured out to Deshpremi pai's gaon Loin city a few years back and they let me out without any visa. If you fly Kithe pacific too HK has 15 days without visa for Indians.

lol that must be it...

jokes apart. No. Immigration/ visa related jobs arent given to people if they dont have citizenship...pretty sure of that. You cant be employed at the border control either without being a citizen.
