Let's say a guy/gal completed his/her computer sciences course in india or Pakistan. Now that fresh grad wants to apply for a job in states.
Wot's important? wot kinda question do the interviewers ask?
Is GPA important? Any sorta chota mota work experience in that field?
Knowin' which programming language is of paramount importance oop, java, c++ etc?

This ques is for software eng.

Re: wots needed?

First off, to get a H1B visa you need to show experience. Which means you need to work at some IT company, for atleast 2 or 3 years. Then that IT company has to send you to USA on H1B if they have some contracts on site. If not, then some company in USA has to show that your skills are needed and not available locally. So then they can procure a H1B visa for you.

Today, the skills needed vary on requirements but in general you need to be good in following areas -
Java or .NET,
Oracle with some Oracle applications,
SAP and related modules

These are general areas which are usually required skills.

And to let you know, these days getting H1 has become more difficult because the sponsor has to file far more detailed paper work and evidences etc to get the LCA (Labour certification) prior to H1B.

So all in all, its best to get a job in an IT company in India (I dont know if Pakistan has any) and then come to USA via them.

What are your skill sets?

Which college have you graduated from?

What is your highest level of education?

Which platforms have you worked on?

Have you worked in any software company in Pakistan?

May be someone on this forum might be able to help you. (Assuming you really want to get a job here in the USA)

(No Jokes) But what is your last name? Cause these days if your last name is Mohammad or Qureshi or something like that a thorough background check is also conducted.

Is that your wishful thinking or you too had played angelic aunt to someone?

This one was also blabbering the other day on her blog how muslims are discriminated. I find these creatures more venomous than our usual politicians or is that I am just plain lucky and doesnít know whats happening around?

I dont want to give away specifics but there is a colleague who is Muslim from India. He recently got his US citizenship. However, he is unable to get a visa for his wife. He had married a year or so before his US citizenship. His file it seems is stuck in 'background' check. They are not denying his application but are not acting on it fast. He is at his wit's ends. Being citizen also is not helping. So there is something somewhere going on which is causing these 'delays'.

So, had he been a hindu, this 'delay' wouldn't be there?

Arbaaz, there would be delay, but not as much as there would be if he/she holds a Muslim name. Yes, I agree it is discrimination, but that how the things are lately. Dont have to get defensive, it’s a fact.

Do you know the guy whom eCharcha is referring to? Are you sure its discrimination and not some documentational deficiency. Do you too have some related really 'shocking/amazing' story to tell?

Many a times some governmental issues get delayed if you don't submit proper or complete documents. Muslim name might be just a coincidence.
