Good news Good news more Good new.........

Several British protesters are acting as "human shields" against possible Israeli military action in the Palestinian territories.
The protesters entered several Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank - from where several suicide bombers have hailed - on Monday night.

They made the move hours after nine foreign activists, four of them Britons, were injured when Israeli soldiers opened fire at a peace march near Bethlehem.

It was the most shocking brutality I've ever seen
Jeremy Hardy

Up to 12 Sussex University students have also been trapped by Israeli troops laying siege to the West Bank town of Ramallah, it has been confirmed.

Comedian and writer Jeremy Hardy, who was with the activists when they were shot, said he was concerned about the safety of the protesters.

"Various people went to the camp last night to protect the families, to act as a human shield, feeling that the soldiers might be less brutal if they knew there was an international presence.

"Several Britons are among those who have gone to the camp. We're quite worried about their safety."

Israeli troops have occupied the West Bank towns of Tulkarm, Qalqilya, Ramallah and Bethlehem

The British protesters are among several hundred foreign peace activists estimated to be in the region, most of whom are aligned with the International Solidarity Movement To Free Palestine.

Mr Hardy said he and some protesters were trapped in a hotel near the outskirts of Bethlehem, with Israeli and Palestinian soldiers fighting outside.

Media ban

Ramallah is now a closed military zone, with troops ensuring Yasser Arafat's headquarters are off-limits to journalists.

With the city under curfew, residents say they are running out of food.

Medical supplies are also low in the hospitals and the morgues are full because it is impossible to transport bodies to burial grounds.

The Foreign Press Association in Israel has protested strongly against the expulsion of an American television crew from Ramallah.

"Closing an entire city to the media indefinitely is an extreme and unjustified policy that makes it impossible for us to cover the important story unfolding here," it said.

Bove is one of the world's best-known activists

French anti-globalisation activist Jose Bove faces deportation from Israel after making a dramatic show of solidarity with Yasser Arafat.
The radical farmers' leader had joined pacifists and foreign pro-Palestinian activists in visiting the besieged Palestinian leader in Ramallah on Sunday.

Five foreign activists were injured on Monday during a demonstration against Israel's military presence near Jerusalem.

As the Israeli army tightens the ring around Palestinian leaders, it has ordered activists to keep out of its way.

Three French activists arrested along with Mr Bove arrived back in Paris on Monday evening after being expelled from Israel.

Mr Bove himself was being held with French colleagues at a detention centre at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport and, according to one report, is due to be put on a Turkish Airlines flight on Tuesday.

'Unbearable to behold'

The veteran campaigner, who has backed political causes as far away as Mexico, said he had seen some "unbearable" sights in recent days, especially at a detention centre for Palestinians where he was held briefly .

"There we saw hundreds of men sitting on the ground, under canvas and behind barbed wire, surveyed by watchtowers," he said.

"We saw 300 people kneeling down and blindfolded, waiting to be interrogated in the cold and the night. It was unbearable to behold."

On Monday, a crowd of 100 foreign, mainly European, protesters confronted Israeli tanks at Beit Jala, near Bethlehem.

Eyewitnesses said that an Israeli machine-gunner fired a burst at the ground as they approached the armour and five activists were injured along with a Palestinian cameraman.

None were seriously injured although one British woman received a live bullet in her abdomen.

Unhappy The only thing I am worried by is suicide bombers becoming a role model

I have mentioned this in another thread. Please see this:

http://www.echarcha.com/forum/showth...?threadid=7849

From that thread:

I was watching FOX news or MSNBC or one of the news channels. I am not sure which one.

Basically there is this columnist/reporter for New York Times called Thomas/Tom Friedman who wrote something which is very worrisome.

He says that it is very necessary to condemn and stop suicide bombings otherwise this would be a role model to terrorists worldwide just like plane hijackings and bombings

I re-read that statement from Mahathir carefully and felt enraged. When have Hindus and Buddhists produced terrorists of the kind you see nowadays who attacked WTC and Israel.

I mean yes Hindus have rioted as recent as just a month ago in Gujrat, but there have been no suicide bombers originating from India - whether Indian Hindus, Indian Muslims or Indian Buddhists. That statement was irresponsible from a head of state.
