bollocks, which other congress coalition partner is in favour of this hike? yet they have gone through with it!

you think BJP could have smoothened the way for FDI? After governments policy for retrospective taxation, you *think first* tell me which investor would want to friggin invest?

are you saying rupee going low is the only reason for the hike?

Not only has the report on black money brought out by the finance ministry proved unable to put a more precise number on the extent of such wealth, it even attempts to roll back many of the gains made over the last two decades in disincentivising black money.

This is because many of the new initiatives suggested in the report boost discretionary powers of the government and extend it to vast new areas, reminiscent of the bad old days of the licence raj. Discretionary powers and licence raj are the prime reasons black money became such a scourge of the Indian economy in the first place.

There's nothing impractical about it.... just that public demand is not for it...!! I demand that abolish currency and introduce Debit/Credit Card system in first phase in major cities... Then expand the gegraphical limits slowly.... And spread it across.... Major cities have all the infra available to introduce Plastic money.... Use Biometrics to map one individual with one bank account.... What is so unthinkable about it.... I want to see how if a Pani Puri wala can pay Rs. 50 per day as Hafta then why cant he pay Rs. 0.5 Per day in taxes....??? Where does all these party funds comes from....???

on the one side you say 80% of indians dont have bank account, on the other you say let us introduce plastic money in 1 day? how will that work? you want 80% of indians not being able to transact? Any idea how much of infrastructure development will be needed for this to happen?

Black money by nature is black.... It doesnt reflect.... So to reflect that money you need to do away with cash....!!! Real Estate deals in mumbai takes place for undisclosed amounts.... Even in small towns like Navi Mumbai, people end up paying bags full of black money to the builders.... How many times this money changes hands without paying a single penny to the governement...???

Dude, it is probably considerable as a fairly long term plan. There are many many shorter term easier things that can be done to help the situation.

That's right.... Phase 1: No currency will be accepted after Six months in Cities Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat, Nagpur....!! Why ONLY these, because they have an adequate infra of banks and connectivity....

Now people in these cities will have to exchange every single currency with a Debit card from the nearest bank which will be done against their biometric signature.... Once the system will be set in motion, expand the geographical limits....

Automatically, you wud have covered a large number of people and made them compulsarily open the bank accounts... At the end of the year, one would automatically know how many of these are actually BPL or not....!! Net inflow - Net Outflow.... What's so wrong with it.... Moreover, softwre guys will have a boom time again....!!

thats the point. This government is not interested in disincetivising black money - their policies are reverse and encourage black money. There is a proposal to make no-objection certificates from the income tax department mandatory before any transactions in immovable property can take place. can you imagine how much more chance of bribery (and therefore more black money) does this 1 single proposal have the potential of?
nahi, aap ko to apne pyari congress sarkar ki tarfdari karni hai, you will sure have justification for this.
