Re: Chief Minister Chinnamma

Governor Vidyasagar Rao will be reaching Chennai today afternoon. Both parties are bracing for a floor test but Rao can choose when that should be. If the Governor waits it out and the Supreme Court verdict finds Sasikala guilty in the disproportionate assets case, it's end of the road for Sasikala. The case was filed in 1996 after BJP leader Subramanian Swamy filed a complaint against Jayalalithaa. Jayalalithaa was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1996, for allegedly amassing unaccounted wealth. Sasikala is accused No. 2 in the case.

Re: Chief Minister Chinnamma

Is BJP trying a back door entry by backing PaneerSeller and delaying the oath of Chinnamma by keeping Governor away this long?

Panic drives Sasikala to beach resort after minister and two MPs join OPS camp

CHENNAI: With more senior leaders joining+ the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam's camp, AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala on Saturday visited the Golden Bay Beach Resort at Koovathur near Mahabalipuram to hold talks with the MLAs who have been staying there+ .

Sasikala, accompanied by partymen and supporters in several cars and SUVs, reached Koovathur around 4pm on Saturday. Her vehicle and other vehicles zipped past the waiting mediapersons and scores of villagers.

Mediapersons' attempts to intercept her for an interview were thwarted by her supporters and policemen. Mediapersons, who were waiting around 2km from the resort, ran behind her vehicle in an effort to reach her. However, police blocked them.

Residents, who had registered strong protest against the presence of large number of outsiders in their otherwise peaceful hamlet, gathered in large numbers and raised slogans against the police.
They went on to the extent of raising slogans appealing to the MLAs to support OPS. "Podungama vottu OPS pathu" (cast your vote looking at OPS) slogans reverberated the air.

Several AIADMK senior leaders, including former MLAs and office-bearers, have joined the Panneerselvam camp. Two MPs and minister 'Ma Foi' Pandiarajan+ have joined the OPS camp triggering panic in Sasikala camp.

Sources said AIADMK general secretary sensed that as time passed more and more ministers, legislators, MPs and party functionaries would shift to the Panneerselvam camp and decided to speak to the MLAs in person in an effort to keep them in her camp.

Sasikala left the resort at 7pm after meeting the MLAs.

Earlier in the day, Sasikala showed impatience+ as the Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao has not invited her to form the government despite she staking claim on Thursday.

Meanwhile, sources said not all the 94 MLAs staying in the resort had given written declarations that they have been staying here voluntarily. More than half of them reportedly refused to give any written declaration. This too caused panic in Sasikala camp.
Their efforts to convince the MLAs turned futile. Sources further added that when Sasikala's attempts to convince them via video conference failed, she decided to meet them in person.

More than a dozen ministers are staying in a resort at nearby Poonthandalam.

Better half had a point when used your argument . "How will becoming a CM grant her immunity?"

After all, Amma who is in the same case had to resign

She can somewhat influence the judgment(to be passed on her) after becoming a CM or maybe she is counting on public support.
Sasikala can go down to any level in politics, typical criminal nature

Sasikala's conviction in wealth case upheld by Supreme Court

NEW DELHI: Long-time Jayalalithaa aide Sasikala's conviction in the disproportionate assets case+ was upheld today by a Supreme Court bench, nixing any possibility of her becoming Tamil Nadu chief minister.

She and the other accused will be soon taken into custody for serving out the remaining four years of her sentence. They will also have to pay a fine of Rs 10 crore each.

"In the past whenever Amma was in crisis, I also suffered this time also I will take it upon me. 'Dharma' will win", said Sasikala after the verdict, according to ANI, which cited AIADMK sources.

The verdict+ disqualifies Sasikala from becoming a legislator, and consequentially she can't be chief minister+ either. This also gives caretaker Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam a huge boost in staking claim to be the legitimate successor to Jayalalithaa, who passed away in December.

Sasikala had staked the claim to be Tamil Nadu chief minister over Panneerselvam. His supporters thronged his residence after the SC decision.
Amma's purity destroyed by traitors", tweeted the AIADMK in Tamil.

Late Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa was also named in the lawsuit, but the case against her stands abated with her demise. Though the criminal case against Jayalalithaa was abated, it was decided that the fine of Rs 100 crore imposed on her by the Bangalore trial court will be recovered from her properties+ .

A case was filed in 1996 against late Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa, following a complaint by now BJP MP Subramanian Swamy, that she had assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.

"I was expecting the conviction. I don't think she can escape the 4 years sentence," Swamy told ANI after the conviction was upheld.

The two separate judgements were today delivered by a two-judge Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Amitava Roy and Pinaki Chandra Ghosh. Justice Ghose authored the main judgment that ran into around a thousand pages. He himself described it as "fatty judgment". Justice Roy wrote a separate "thin" concurring judgment.

In the meanwhile, as soon as the SC bench upheld Sasikala's conviction, police entered the Koovathur resort outside Chennai where Sasikala is holed up with dozens of MLAs who support her.

The legal proceedings in the DA case against Jayalalithaa and Sasikala go back two decades. The apex court had transferred the trial to Bengaluru after a DMK member, K Anbazaghan, moved court alleging that the trial may not be free and fair if it continued in Chennai when the main accused was chief minister.

The Bengaluru trial court convicted Jayalalithaa on September 27, 2014, and awarded her four years imprisonment along with Rs 100 crore fine, with Rs 10 crore fine on the other three. The conviction disqualified her as an MLA requiring her to step down as CM. But she returned as CM after Karnataka HC on May 11, 2015 acquitted her, Sasikala and the others in the DA case.

I hate this when all these honly English speaking madrassis have turned Indian civilization from Dharm into Dharma, Ram into Rama, Laxman into Laxmana, Krishn into Krishna. Sounds so awful and stupid.

Effectively also means Jayalalitha has been found guilty. One thing is good, the conviction has been upheld, sasikala will not be CM.
