Question Born in India, raised in India, educated in India ... We're not Indians!

Who are Anglo-Indians? Which part of India do they come from? What makes them different from the rest of us? I offer my apologies in advance to any here Ö I mean no offense.

This morning, I had an Indian couple visiting me ... foreign names but desis through and through. I was naturally happy to greet them ... nice to meet desis ... pecially when you don't meet them too often.

I was genuine ... "HI, what a beautiful day ... fellow Indians!

Almost unison, came curt reply "SORRY, WE'RE NOT INDIANS!

"Oh, relly ... you had me fooled. Fiji?

"No. We are Anglo-Indians.

"I see. But, you were born and educated in India?

"Yes!

I did not pursue any further. You donít mix work with personal feelings and create conflict.

Talking Re: Born in India, raised in India, educated in India ... We're not Indians!

Wo aise hi hote hain... mera bhi paala kaafi saaron se pada hai... Ek bhai to aisa tha, har sentence shuru karta tha "Back in England, things are... blah blah blah", jabki us bhai ne India se bahar to door ki baat, kabhi dilli se bahar bhi paanv nahi rakha tha. Ek din maine poocha England kya teri backside mein laga hua hai....

Re: Born in India, raised in India, educated in India ... We're not Indians!

A generation or two or three removed, Indians from Fiji, Africa and other parts of the world who have not set foot on the land can be forgiven if they do not wish to be associated with or called Indians. One can appreciate if they wish to be identified with the land of their birth rather where their forefathers migrated from.

But, it appears to me ... half white/half Indian breed (anglo-Indians?) would rather prefer own separate identity so what if they were born, raised and educated in India!

Weird people, if you ask me.

Re: Born in India, raised in India, educated in India ... We're not Indians!

if they were half white and half indian then that would explain their attitude totally. they think that it is cool to be thought of as "foreign" ( a bit like some of our brothers who live in america for a few months and think of themselves as goras just because they wipe their brown asses with tissue instead of washing with paani )

i have noticed that anglo indians like to describe themselves as such rather than just indian because it gives them a false sense of kudos in their own eyes whilst the rest of us just laugh in their faces because of their stuck up attitude.

indian bhai, i think i will stick to my expletive in this instance chewtiya ko chewtiya nahin kahenge to kya kahenge?
