Digging
One thing I remember from stays in various cities in India was this story.
1. A foot path or road would be in a bad condition. 2. It would be repaired after 8 months or so. 3. Within 2 weeks of its repair, some one will dig it out. Back to situation in 1. Me thinks that goes beyond corruption, apathy and lack of planning. I thought it was sheer sadism on part of local officials. Anyone else thinks the same.

Re: Digging
In most cities the roads are dug by service providers like mtnl/bsnl,PNG,ISPs etc for either repairing or laying new cables, pipes fiber optic etc. They need to get permission for digging the road from local muncipal bodies and out of the many conditions for getting the permissions the main is to deposit a certain amount per km incase the road is not restored to as it was before digging.
Now the company doing the digging work must be finding it economical in forfeiting the deposit rather then repairing the road. So after the muncipal deadline the amount goes to the treasury and a tender is floated, approved, road restored and some other company applies for digging permission ![]() Any solution to the above so that we forward it to the muncipal corporations across India ![]()

![]() Once the telecom dept people dug up freshly layed road (couple weeks old, it still had the new tar shine) in front of my house in Bangalore. People were livid and those guys got to hear some real harsh words, police was called in, became a big issue. The road though was never fixed. The helplessness experienced by all my neibors was frustrating.

Re: Digging
Some action somewhere at last
Link The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) Central Zone officials on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police against Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for failing to fill up trenches that were dug up to lay cables. The civic body had earlier warned all companies and agencies to complete road restoration works within the specified time, failing which criminal cases would be booked against them.
