French Open 2014

Looks like Nadal is totally out of form this year and might not be able to retain his title.

Joko looks in good touch and Federer is playing much better than last year. Ferrer can cause a few upsets as well.

I will go with DJokovic

Re: French Open 2014

Nadal is getting there, i think his full confidence is not back since loss of aussie open but he has the knack of peaking at the right time.

Another person likely to do well is Wawrinka, he may again take out Joko if their paths meet, Nurray has been playing decent too.

Wawa is already out in first round. He made 62 unforced errors

I see Nadal losing in the same fashion, he is not looking convincing at all ...

Kei Nishikori is out as well, he was expected to create a few upsets, but hard luck.

BTW, his coach is Michael Chang

Re: French Open 2014

No way Rafa losing before finals.. Rafa in 5 sets on clay not easy even for Djokovic.. He always peaks at end of tournament but has admitted he is not playing the best and that he's getting older so it will be a struggle for him.

He said so after the match with Murray during Madrid Open

Quote:
”Get used to (it),” Nadal said of his recent struggles. ”With the years that’s the normal thing. Everybody suffers. That’s part of the sport.” ”I play against one of the top players in the world after two tough days,” Nadal said. ”If I play well I’m going to have my chances, if not I’m going to spend the weekend (at home) in Mallorca.”

Re: French Open 2014

I am not following Nadal's recent form - but I have known great players to lift their game on big occasions.

So I will go with Nadal.

Re: French Open 2014

Joko is known for his generosity; this one looks more cool than generous though

Anyways, Federer is out; he lost to Gulbis is a 5 setter.

So are the Williams sisters; in fact all top 3 seeds in women are already gone.. so we will probably have a new champion this year.

Nadal is slowly coming in form but I will still go with Joko

joker is looking good, but remember he has a mental block in the finals of grand slams.. and he's lost last 3 finals he got to, this will play a big role if he plays Rafa in finals.

Rafa is warming up, even with his back issues hindering him a bit, as the tournament goes into second round, he always plays a bit suspect in first week.. he next faces Ferrer who is a bit of a tough nut, especially recently. But Rafa will sail through at the most in 4 sets.

Interesting match coming up today, Verdasco v/s Murray, he's troubled Murray in the past.. Murray might just lose coming from a long 5 setter.

On the women's side I'm going with Simona Halep for the title who's really come up the ranks last couple years having had breast reduction surgery to remove her huge breasts hindrance, which made her game slightly less appealing. But I must not count out Sharapova who won a good match y'day and has been a previous winner. Who could think she'd get a career slam.

Re: French Open 2014

I've been proven wrong.. stupid Verdasco was beaten without too much effort by Murray, who's definitely playing quite aggressively on clay this year. Monfils might prove to be a tougher opponent to Murray.

It is looking to be another Rafa Djokovic final barring any unforeseen performances by other players.
