I remembered seeing a documentary long back that only High speed rail crash occurred in Germany. France and Japan had zero accident record. There was another crash in Spain in 2011 or so too. But Japanese Bullet trains seem to have a perfect record.

Here is an article tomtomming the safety record.

Although Indian firms like L & T would be involved, this will be majorly driven by Japanese. Like Maruti Udyog, you could expect the persons also to be trained and the safety record to match Japanese bullet train.

Says that China is now selling High speed rail.
China itself got its high speed rail from Germany.
So, India could do the same.

BTW, In those DD days, Indira Gandhi used to blame 'Opposition' and 'foreign hand' for complaining about space program. It is another matter that the first satellite went in janata raj.

A good part is who you entrust. Delhi Metro went through E Sreedharan, who also made Konkan Rail happen.

Sanjay Gandhi's 'people's car' also hung in for 10 years, till in early 80s, V Krishnamurthy and RC bharghav made Maruti Udyog. happen.

Opposition to such things is just plain politics. Even a positive thing can be converted to negative.

And all said and done, Indian Railways' safety record may not be bad given the volume. Like after 2012 Nirbhaya case, India was shown as the rape country. But Shakti pai posted some links then showing that if you factor in population, UK and US actually have a higher pr capita rape.

The accident news is nothing new. I must have been travelling 10000 km a year between 1992 and 2000, but never bothered about all these accident reports. If you were travelling through Bihar, there would be a good chance of robbery though
And Railways was far more safer than Delhi roads. I was searching for a news item in 90s where a group visited Kashmir valley and came back safely but were run over by a blue line bus in Delhi while waiting for a bus. here is almost an identical piece though

Yadi ek-dau maal-gaadi ke dibbe bhi jo laga diye gaye,.. pichchhe,…. Toh faayda yeh hoga ki ,.. perishable foods like Milk, tomato, Kaanda, and few other vegetables,… also food packets of Mc Donald’s, pizza,.. etc,. can be shifted quickly from one state to another within short time,… which is a commonly needing thing in India,… when few vegetables goes sky-rocketing for some reasons like……… baadh, akaal, sookha, bhaari rain, cyclone,..,…not enuff fertile land for certain Veg.,…… and say, crop fails in one state,… and perishable food lasts only 1-3 days . This will help for a quick transfer of such,…

In an a/c compartment,...Medicines, Blood, heart-transplant and other body parts needed for any immediate surgery,... and few fruits like Berries... which never tested by certain states due to its life and not having proper land,... now those states can also enjoy it,.. !

First concentrate on improving food quality. Bullet train is less important than passengers getting sick on trains .

again, logic nahi jhep raha hai. I am a retard afterall - as other people on this forum have said..

even if they produce best quality food, what does that have with train technology? conversely, if they serve you food that you like, does that mean they can have bullet trains all over the country?

If you can't even serve good quality food on trains and passengers fall so sick that some of them are in ICU , then there is a good chance that your high tech train may derail and have an accident--- something that is happening to even our regular trains nowadays.

Re: Bullet Train

Bullet train is worth when two highly fast, Cities that never sleeps,.. and 24x7 active cities like...... Chicago, NY, LA, Baltimore, Washington DC are connected and time can be saved and that is important,…. Professional persons are traveling and for meeting and say Medical-surgery and important venue attending for meetings, is of highly concern,... is an issue,.. then it makes sense .

But what to do with City like AHD where – Hoti hai,… chalti hai,.. A Madaari will show Bhalu show and hundreds ppl have spare time to surround him for hours,… ppl have fizool time to shout and canvass for political parties, in julus, Laughter shows sort of Dharmik Pravachans of Modern Samaaj-Sudharaks / Saint-Sadhus, and FB, WA abig business now a days, for fizool Shubh Prabhat and Dev-Devis' photos,.. how to and where to pass time..... is a problem,…!!!

Pppl even rather wish taking Local trains than Express, so that they can play tass-gadi, yatri O' se sher-gapaate haank shake,… can sit at window, Train ke fan ki hawa khaaye,… station - station pe utar kar yawning maare,….. chai, khaari shing khaaye,…. And thus,.. how to pass the time, is the problem,…. ! Who cares about, if journey takes 4 hours less…. ? They regret rather,… Oh 1 iitni jaldi bambayi aa gaya,… Oh No ! Saale journey ke paise bhi poore vasool nahin huye !

In Early 90s, while coming back from US, when AHD was not an international airport, I had to go from Sahaar to Santacruz and from there to AHD,.. The orange juice served in that one hour of mini flight, was so rotten-sour and juice of peel rather, that in US no1 would even sip that,… But all passengers sipped it like,.. Oh My ! OJ? As, they never had tasted or saw it before ! Lol.

India doesn't have enough money for bullet trains..

India has enough money and resources to absorb 10s of thousands of Rohingya refugees.

It's not about money . What if the train derails causing a major accident at high speed? Already so many trains are derailing. Indian railways work culture is inefficient and has become more so nowadays. The Modi sarkar should improve that rather than concentrate on bullet train.

You are talking for yourself. But Gujarat and Maharashtra have been traditionally industrial states. And there would be substantial business traffic between these 2. Now, what you say actually applied to Kolkata I knew. Haven’t been there after 2000.
BTW, my first Udaan was in 97 from Dillika to Ahmedabad and there were quite a few people including families wanting to pay airfare which was double the Rajdhani AC 2T Fare in those days.

For a pilot run of High speed rail you do need 2 big economic cities 400 km apart. Mumbai and Ahmedabad come there. Bangalore to Chennai and Bangalore to Hyderabad would also make good candidates. But if Mumbai Ahmedabad works well, it could be extended to Jaipur and Delhi. I actually would think dillI to Ludhiana would also be great. There will be lot off travelers who just want to dhow off that they are using the bullet train.
