Thumbs down Once again , doctors are assaulted after patient's death

once more doctors are assaulted over patient's death . this has been happening repeatedly and with increasing frequency .

it should be noted that dengue has a considerable fatality rate and whatever doctors try to do to save the patient , some patients may not survive . doctor is not god and medical science is not miracle .

copy/paste---

Dengue death repeats itself in Mumbai days after a similar case of a young boy succumbing to the infection was reported in the capital city Delhi. Death due to dengue shock syndrome of a three-year-old boy in the city limits led to a ghastly fight between hospital doctors and relatives at KEM hospital following which resident doctors went on a strike in tertiary-care hospital Friday morning.

The young boy, Abu Sufian, resident of Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, was brought to the hospital at 11 pm on Thursday with non recordable pulse and blood pressure. According to a resident doctor, the family was immediately counseled about the critical condition of their child and non-availability of pediatric intensive care unit beds. “We had also taken high risk consent. Inspite of non availability of the ICU bed, relatives were ready to admit in general ward. All necessary medications were started,” said Dr Sagar Mundada, president of Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors.

At around 4 am, Sufian lapsed into a condition of dengue shock syndrome and succumbed to the vector-borne disease at 4.45 am Friday morning. Upset and angry over their son’s death father Mirazuddin Siddiqui called three relative who together allegedly picked up iron tables, wooden sticks and chairs and started beating the three resident doctors on duty.

The three doctors posted in the pediatric ward, Dr Kushal Sharnagat, Dr Puneet Garg, and Dr Suhas Chaowdhary, sustained injuries on limbs and back and are currently undergoing treatment. According to the hospital sources, female security guards from Eagle firm stationed at the ward allegedly ran away after commotion in the ward scaled up.

Currently, the hospital’s dean, Dr Avinash Supe is at Bhoiwada Police station registering a first information report against the parents and assaulter.
The case, however, brings to light the poor medical facilities across the city for fighting dengue infection. The family had reportedly taken Sufian to a private doctor before deciding to visit KEM hospital in their final attempt. A doctor from the hospital said, “The boy was in a very bad condition. He had been vomiting since last three days.” Sufian was admitted in a general ward and given CPR and resuscitation soon after his condition worsened throughout the night.

A week ago, a seven year old Delhi boy succumbed to dengue fever after being turned down by seven private hospitals.
In Mumbai, the death toll due to the disease has touched four while close to 2,496 patients are on symptomatic treatment for dengue. Since January this year, 469 patients have tested positive for the ailment in the city.

Meanwhile, the doctors in the hospital are now demanding increased security and additional CCTV cameras for protection. The KEM hospital currently has 10 CCTV cameras and a security audit of the hospital, in possession of the Indian Express, claims 145 cameras have to be purchased for covering the entire premises. Currently there are 34 walkie-talkies with security personnel and 21 more are required, the report said.

That is not good.

What are symptoms of Dengue - how does one know that one has dengue at the earliest?
What should happen after dengue is confirmed so that death can be avoided?

The patient is already dead. Who else can be assaulted?

symptoms are---
severe pain in joints and muscles , swollen lymph nodes in neck , headache, feeling of tiredness and fever , and rash. sometimes vomiting .

in severe cases it may progress to dengue hemorrhagic fever, a rare complication characterized by high fever, damage to lymph and blood vessels, bleeding from the nose and gums, enlargement of the liver, and failure of the circulatory system. The symptoms may progress to massive bleeding, shock, and death. This is called dengue shock syndrome (DSS).

if there is an epidemic of dengue going on then on appearance of symptoms you should test yourself for dengue by giving blood sample to pathological laboratory .

old test is dengue blot test . new test is DENV Detect IgM Capture ELISA .

Re: Once again , doctors are assaulted after patient's death

if dengue is confirmed , you take rest and lots of fluids . for pain you take only paracetamol tablets and not aspirin as aspirin may worsen bleeding .

there are no medicines for dengue . so rest is important . if signs of dengue haemorrhagic fever are seen , then admit yourself to hospital . here treatment consists of intravenous fluids .

but because there are no medicines for actually eradicating the virus , deaths have occurred .

Re: Once again , doctors are assaulted after patient's death

In Umrika, the doctors can get sued for all reasons. Hence, they pay a hefty insurance premium for liability, which gets ultimately passed on to the customers of insurance.

The docs fees are lower in India because such a risk for judgement is not there, though docs also come under consumer protection law.

BTW, it may be controversial, but were the assaulters in the other 3 cases also from a 'particular community'

Re: Once again , doctors are assaulted after patient's death

This was bad but some doctors are insensitive and show no empathy, in fact are rude and show cavalier attitude. As Amir Khan showed in his show the govt body monitoring doctors had not suspended even one doctor's licence in a particular year.. This is f'ed up.

Some people prone to violence take matters in their own hands and such incidents happen.

How is a 3 year old supposed to tell if his joints/ muscles hurt? Seems like the only way a parent would know is by high fever? But fever and vomiting is as common as common cold. How will the hospitals decide if they can admit a child or not without confirming with blood test?

There should be a law in place where a hospital cannot refuse treatment or find an alternative hospital to provide treatment when the illness is life threatning.

Dont believe all that Amir Khan shows.
Doctors in Govt hospitals have no shift hours, some work for upto 18 hours, and you cant expect such doctors to talk sweetly to every patient and their relatives.

Re: Once again , doctors are assaulted after patient's death

In india people just need a reason to assault one another . Either its in name of caste, religion, affirmative action, or just because they are bored . Public property is like their baap ki jagir . Even though its a problem for them later .

What to do if Indian public like to think with their ass .

Re: Once again , doctors are assaulted after patient's death

What pisses me off is these same common people don't do anything to prevent the growth of mosquitoes. Do they want to keep the areas where they live clean?
No. For them its govt's responsibility. Do them basterds want to pay taxes. No. they are "entitled" to not to pay taxes. But still want to blame the govt. Be it UPA or NDA or AAP govt.
Then something happened due to their own carelessness, ignorance etc.. blame govt, beat up the doctors who worked hard to become doctors. Yes there are bad apples in health industry too, but then go beat them up.

Agree with Amtha pai, I have same issue with small businesses who will not even sweep outside their door, diamond merchants who don't employ security and get bombed.

Is a perfect result of desi shopping areas like "Devon" in Chicago or "Oak Tree" in NJ are shitty and filthy. As well as some gas stations.

Iski maa ki....Whe I used to work at USRobotics/3Com, you see wrappers of ghutka pouches all over in the front of the entrance.

When I was working in Breed in NJ, the machine shop had all machine operators were desis an pukis. You can't use the bathrooms in their area because half the time the sinks are clogged due to ghutka shits all of them chew.
