Re: Vonage giving free calls to India

To stay connected with yr India relatives for free / cheapest ,….

The best bet be,…..

  • Get a good ( or an extra mobile, if you already have one, already ) ( or cheaper like "HTC Desire" costing 14-19 dollars ) Cell phone and get freedompop.com ‘s basic service which is free, ( chk on their web site or discuss by calling them, which phones are compatible to them - you can either buy from them or from e-bay or wherever.. ) and each month they give 100 international minutes free, where India is also included. No charges, no contract, no other bindings or terms.

  • Tell yr India relatives to install Google voice and hangout dial-er ( which is free ) on their Cell and they can call you unlimited free, using their home’s / office’s Wi Fi..... . If you need them, place a miss call to them, and they'll call you back.

  • Get OBIHAI piece in USA and establish the land line with Google voice, which works just like a regular phone ( just like Vonage modem ) and buy some random minutes ( say of 10 dollars ) as and when needed, their charge is hardly 1 to 2 cents per minute, calling India. ( Google’s international calling charge is the lowest ) Or get OBIHAI pieces at both the ends.

  • You can also try OOMA , Magicjack , nettalk pieces at both the ends, bought and established ,… ( having US number at both the ends ) however they now charge 15-30 dollars per year, ( after one year ) so not totally free for both the ends, for unlimited talk.

Vonage or T-mobile lines, mentioned by many here, may not be good, as their regular and additional international line and charge will put you to the Most expensive ( around 45+ dollars and taxes ) and nothing else. Fggt it.

^^ Options 1 and 2 shown are the BEST and I use those.

...

Thanks Shakti pai and Jagguji (any more apps like freedom pop). This Vonage is killing us at $45 or so. Of late I have been using WhatsApp calling. It has video call too now. But need something we which can dial phones in case the folks at other end Ste disconnected from net.

I've had no problems where I live or move around, India calling is very good no voice quality issues, no call drop, etc.

I often start for work talking to family in India, get to work and am still talking.

People use Viber, facebook mesenger and few others.

Whatsapp voice quality is not that good, it also depends on traffic and many other factors... like, Time, tower ( signal strength ) and weather factors,.. ( also, if both guys use headphones on their cell, then quality is little better )

But Google voice and hangout dialer ( from India to US ) works perfect with clear voice, also it can dial any US landline numbers ( so, no need to have GV and hangout dialer been installed at both the ends, or have to have a cellphone in USA, as if they dial to US land line phone, ( from their cell ) the voice quality is crystal clear,.. ( even if they call on your Cell number in US, you need not have to installed GV/Hangout,.. unlike WhatsaApp. )
Time has no Limits and its free and unlimited . )

also chk out ringplus.com's offer,.. they offer free calls, with little Ads to be listened in dial rings,..

Google Voice and hangout dialer APPs for Cell : ( even national calls within USA for free and unlimited )

Stetson Doggett is the above guy's name and you can youtube search him, for his other vdos on freedompop, ringplus, freedompop v/s ringplus comparison,... and many such subjects.
