i have to tell my experience.
I was travelling to US, there was 8-9 hours gap. Dont know about transit visa thing in those days. I just walked to immigration and requested them to provide me temporary entry to london city. First he looked at me up and down, then told me its raining out there and you cannot enjoy out in city. I said i have rain coat& sweater so no problems sir. Then he went inside and talked to some officer. came back and told me..ok young man i am giving 8 hour entry to london.
i just ....thank u

Dirtz,

Why do you need agents?
They are all scums.
These days, its better safe than sorry. Due to lot of terrorist around in the world, all contries immigration departments are strict. Even puke's too.

Another thing, 3 hrs ke layover mai woh bechaare kyaa khaak dekhenge London mai?

Bottom line, DO NOT listen to bhadwaas (agents) in India, Chewtiyaas do not have latest infos. Screw them. Get the visa from India if he needs. Don't even think that if he wants to go to London on his way back to India and will get visa here in US. Get it from the country whose citizen you are.

Re: Travelling via London -Transit Visa ?

No transit visa is required if you wish not to go outside airport. This was before recent bombings and all, but I dont think they have changed the policy. Couple of my freinds have travelled by BA and they didnt require transit visa.

Re: Travelling via London -Transit Visa ?

Last month my brother and his wife were travelling to Poland through London (not stopping in london.. just a flight change). He found out that he needed a transit visa. So he and his wife applied for transit visa. He got his, but his wife's application was refused. He ultimately had to rebook through Paris because of this.

Re: Travelling via London -Transit Visa ?

depends, BA needs visas, usually, agents in Mumbai do not know. If he has a gc after 1998, not needed, but, else, do not take chance. Just my suggestion as I have been through same. Best is to go to BA website and keep a print out if no visa needed. Else, you may need to get one.
