The Heydays of Infy are over. Vishal Sikka did bring it up from the dumps. But it made its money with Satyam in y2k and in days when dollar was 30, but 10k a month was like a princely salary.
India story has dimmed but it is not done yet. China has a language problem and Vietnam, etc. are not large enough.

Shortly after 'Rupee became fully convertible on current account' sometime in 93-94. For about 3 years, Dollar was steady at 31.3 or so. In fact if inflation was factored, rupee was raising. it was before the cyber coolie success kicked in. It was due to inflows from FIIs buying into 'India story', though FDI was still in millions compared to billions in China.

Sometime in 2007, Cyber coolie world was again peeing in pants after Rupee rose to about 35 to a dollar.

All that is going to change. The new guy has taken measures. Hackathon facilitates genuine innovation, right? Link in next post.

Infosys organizes US hackathon to attract global talent

Shilpa Phadnis | TNN | Nov 28, 2014, 12.52 AM IST

BENGALURU: Indian IT has often been accused of hiring low level, low-cost programmers, pejoratively referred to as "cyber coolies". But Infosys's new CEO Vishal Sikka looks now to be trying to win the best of global programming brains. The $8.2-billion IT company organized its first big hackathon in the US in Princeton University earlier this month. Called HackPrinceton, it saw the participation of more than 600 students. Princeton is a private Ivy League research university in New Jersey.

Infosys was the main sponsor of the three-day event that also had other sponsors, including Apple, Microsoft and Autodesk. This is a big shift in the Bengaluru-based IT company's hiring model that till recently was focused on direct campus recruitment, and reflects the desire to offer higher value-added software solutions.

Hackathons involve software programmers competing to come up with some best-of-breed ideas, and so provide good insights into their capabilities. It allows firms to assess a range of attributes, including performing under time constraints and thinking out of the box.

"We are in the process of engaging with a vast community of undergraduate and Masters students in the US as part of our hiring initiative announced earlier this month," Infosys said. The company had said it plans to hire 2,100 people, including 600 graduates, in the US in the next 12 months.

In hackathons you have to come up with problems as well as their solutions. So both should be appealing.
Jus' sayin' .

If these folks are smart enough to sense, exploit or even create opportunities such as Y2K, they are also capable of eclipsing such feet. Who knows the Indian IT lobby may be behind the hype of Y2K scare. It takes ingenuity to think of such plans.
