Unhappy Sad state of a Desi family

I feel sorry for this family.

One drunk bastard mowed down the entire family in NY. Only the mother (seriously injured) & child survived.

Re: Sad state of a Desi family

Their relatives back home have the daunting task to give their deceased kin a respectful cremation.

Re: Sad state of a Desi family

Better to cremate in US itself given their lack of funds. With social media and a bit of using contacts, recently desis collected 2-3 times the amount to help a guy hit by speeding car, he is or was in a coma.

I don't agree with the brother's statement.. Money was collected for the kid and so should be used only for that, and he does need that money. No uncles/aunts can take care as good as parents can (in most cases).

Swapnil said, "According to other Indians here, the money collected is only for Ibhan's future. We will take care of his future. He doesn't need that money. The money would help us cremate our brother's and parents' bodies instead."

Post Re: Sad state of a Desi family

One my very good friends, Vikas Bhirud died in India on his way back home to Pune from USA on an annual visit to his family.

See details here and here

He was travelling from Mumbai International airport to Pune in a tourist vehicle. The driver was overcome by sleep and crashed into an oncoming truck. Only Vikas's daughter survived. This happened many years ago.

The big lesson for everyone coming to India is - If your flight lands late at night, then sleep the rest of the night in some hotel. Get up next morning and then continue on your journey. Chances are much better to get a tourist vehicle whose driver has had a good night's sleep.

Re: Sad state of a Desi family

Yes, same for just driving in early hours of the morning 1 to 4am to save one day's pay. I see desi people driving from relative's house in another city or vacation and reach home like 3-5am.. Arre baba kids have to go to school and I will be at work looking like a corpse.

Re: Sad state of a Desi family

On Friday evening, avoid walking on pavements.
Even waiting at a bus stop is risky - one of my colleagues was mowed down by a drunk driver while waiting for a bus on a Friday evening very recently (less than 6 months back).

I think this is the guy I was talking about .. Basically late at night on weekend somebody just drove through the stop sign without noticing the guy crossing road. I heard they collected much more money than needed.

My colleague was just standing at a bus stop waiting for the bus to come. Little did he know that he was waiting for his death. Poor chap.
Such a jovial and sharp guy.

Then where to walk ? on the road ?
If you are talking about India every hour is dangerous road or no road

I can vouch for that.. Had beer bottles/cans thrown at us from moving cars, pickup trucks in Tennessee on Friday nights.

I read somewhere that that is because only the wife can give permission for cremation. The wife is in coma so burial is likely to be temporary.

Poor lady, if she wakes up, its going to be horrible for her to know what has happened!

Apparently, its all humbug. The deceased's remains are still awaiting a respectful cremation/burial till now:

http://www.thequint.com/india/2016/0...ry-his-brother

As for the deceased's parents, an unknown Samaritan helped the family & not the Indian govt or local embassy:
