Best Airports
What are some of best airports you have been to?
What do you look for in an airport? Things that I look for are:- 1.)Comfy chairs - ones where you can rest your head and sleep. 2.)Cleanliness 3.)Good restaurants 4.)Good shops I like Delhi and SFO airports. |

Re: Best Airports
The thing I look at an airport the most is how can I spend the least time in it. Thats a slight paradox - for long haul journeys, specifically with breaks, I therefore need an airport which allows lots of airplanes to land and take off very frequently so I can change quickly. That also means though that the airport has to be large-ish, means more time hauling me, family, maybe luggage from one terminal to the other increasing the time I have to spend in the airport!
so, a large airport with quick transport links between connecting flights perhaps like Atlanta (not now when travelling between some terminals needs travelling in a bus), free drinking water, cheap(er) food, good sanitation facilities, absence of touts, availability of foreign exchange, accessible information points, shopping being the last one.

Re: Best Airports
it will influence the day I book the tickets by allowing me to book a combination with shortest practical connecting time.
If I want to go from Jhumri talaiyya to Timbuktu via Kos and Kos airport only has two flights every 24 hours to Timbuktu, then I will have to end up spending hours at Kos airport. If it is large and allows many more flights to land and take off from, then it will allow more than 2 flights every 24 hours, so my lay-over will be shorter. Nothing to do with flying stand-by. ofcourse we are talking airports only. there are other things like how busy/popular is the route which will dictate how frequently do flights fly that route too... that's a factor I don't use to judge how good an airport is though.

Re: Best Airports
i'm cool as long as the layover doesn't feel like a death sentence. I've come across many airports with innovative/entertaining features for both adults as well as kids. I'm a very very light traveller, so dragging luggage from one point to another doesn't bother me. for me shopping/drinking/spas at the airport turns airport downtime into hours very very well spent.

Re: Best Airports
My criterion is where you can get cheap beer.
Old Begumpet airport was on top in that. I got a chilled tiger beer can for $1 from the duty free shop there and was drinking it while waiting for my delayed air India flight. Shanghai airport also had a bar next to the boarding gate.
