Post Baba Ramdev's WhatsApp-rival Kimbho misses deadline

Baba Ramdev's WhatsApp-rival Kimbho misses deadline

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev promoted Patanjali has delayed the launch of its WhatsApp-rival chat app called Kimbho yet again. The Kimbho app was scheduled to be launched on August 27 after resolving security concerns that were raised earlier.

Acharya Balkrishna, MD of Patanjali tweeted earlier today,"...we inform you that trials, review and upgradation is in process to to make Kimbho most safe, convenient and secure...We will announce new date of official launch asap."

Patanjali’s ambitious plans to launch a ‘Made in India’ chat app to counter WhatsApp had earlier hit a roadblock when cybersecurity experts called the app security disaster.

Kimbho was first launched on May 30 and was taken down within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Aditi Kamal, the founder of Bolo chat app (which was being rebranded into Kimbho app) has quit Patanjali. Kamal is set to focus on relaunching Bolo Messenger separately and will ultimately compete with Kimbho when it gets launched.

Interestingly, when Kimbho was launched in May for a day, people with basic programming knowledge took to Twitter to highlight that the app was a mere copy of the Bolo app that was launched years back.

Explaining name the “Kimbho”, Patanjali spokesperson SK Tijarawala had earlier tweeted in Hindi, “Kimbho in Sanskrit means What’s going on and what’s the news.”

The Kimbho chat app is claimed to be AES encrypted and supports ghost chatting and auto-deletion of messages. As far as file support is concerned, the Kimbho platform supports videos, photos, doodle, stickers, GIF among others. It can be seen as a complete WhatsApp competitor with location support as well. The app also support video chatting and interesting users can also draw doodles to share with their friends.

I sometimes wonder what is the business case for such a chat app - specifically if it does not included advertising like WA...

If WA is prevalent then selling business licenses makes sense.

what would patanjali do - how will they earn money off Kimbho?

WhatsApp is still advertisement free... FaceBook owns it now and they are more interested in gathering user data.

BTW, WhatsApp has a commercial licensed API which businesses can use.

Re: Baba Ramdev's WhatsApp-rival Kimbho misses deadline

I could do without whatsapp, it's become as useless as email was in the 2000s. Just forward some crap without even watching/reading yourself. Some groups nobody even replies if you ask something.

I stopped all whatsapp notifications, I check it like 5-10 times a day whenever I find time. I told all my close ones to text me directly instead of whatsapp for quick response.
