Dandiya anyone?

Last night in the temple we had this dandiya and I had loads of fun.

Anyone here like dandiya too? What are you all doing for Navratri and Diwali?

Re: Dandiya anyone?

In mumbai , the police have put a ten o' clock deadline for the dandiya to close quite a few years ago.

Since then the massive crowds coming to dandiya have lessened ,but not gone.

Earlier ,the big dandiyas like sankalp dandiya used to attract huge number of participants.

Women used to come splendidly dressed in chaniya cholis and men also in traditional attire.......even now many do.......

Dancing used to go upto 2 o clock at night.

Sadly ,this has been a little curtailed due to the time deadline imposed by the police fearing noise pollution.

On the personal front ,I will go on saturday night.........no disco and red bull this saturday for me........!!

Re: Dandiya anyone?

Do you know the story behind the 10pm deadline
Advani's aunt was very much disturbed by the noise and crowd at Mount Mary Fair in Bandra,so she, along with some senior bjp party leaders filled a writ-petition asking the court to put some restriction on the time the fair,as it was disturbing to senior citizens, the high court granted her relief and in turn christains all over Mumbai filled same petitions about noise pollution during diwali, navratri and all other festivals refering to the high court order against Mount Mary fair.
Earlier the dandiyas used to start at 10.30 pm but now because of our so called hindutva party it ends at 10pm.

There is nothing sad about it. If people in ganapti and navratri had imposed self-restraints, there was no need of govt imposed ban. But these goons will never care about ill people, students and hospitals

Kaha kaha se story late ho bhai....People in pune and mumbai and battling in courts and with govt for a while for this now. Can I know whats your age? When I was child I don't remember any dandiya going beyond 12. People used to start at 8 and it used to end at 12. This late drama has started in last 8-10 years.

Agree with you. The moment any festivity goes out of proportion, it calls for a ban. Dancing with loud music up to 12:00 is fine on a weekend but certainly not up to 2:00 AM, especially in a residential area and for 9 full days!

In 70's -till late 80's I've seen in our gaanv and all near by cities Dandiya_garba going on till 2-3 am easily. (No one was complaining in the fear of being labeled of anti-god etc..)

Agree, loudspeakers blowing till that time is nuisance. But when this gets out of control, there has to be some restriction.

But 10 pm is too much. Should be atleast mid-night.

You know they should start using technology now. Why not have all particpants use wireless headsets and broadcast the music instead of blaring it over loudspeakers?

I think thats the way the future of discos and similar is headed anyway.
