Unhappy Menial chores: a bitter truth

It’s a harsh reality. This fact is a tragedy.

If you wish to be hygienic, you have to ruin somebody’s life. It could be your maid, your servant, your mother, your wife or yourself. We take cleanliness for granted. Actually a Herculean amount of work goes into making it happen. The above mentioned folk's life is bereft of any excitement and dedicated to doing mundane tasks like sweeping, wiping dust off furniture, washing clothes and utensils all seven days of the week while we are happily in college, workplace, theater or internet. Even though domestic servants are paid for it and they don’t have the caliber to hope for other proffession, it is still an inhuman task.

Usage of machines is not feasible because it will consume a lot of electricity and the cost will be astronomical. Only billionaires can afford it.

But there is no other option. The only way is to be insensitive and enslave someone.

like they say, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. wiping dust, washing clothes and utensils - why do you think these are inhuman tasks? you are probably raised in a household where you had domestic servants to do these things. having never had to sweep your room clean you think it is a menial task.
They are not. wash your plates for a week and then for the whole family the next week and you will realise.
For domestic servants, its simply a job that pays for their roji-roti. There are worse jobs - people sorting out rubbish in land-fills to find out recyclable material, people sorting through rubbish to find a piece of bread to eat, in old days people carrying a can of shit to be dumped, there are people who will sift the sand 5 meters from where they do asthi-visarjan to search for money, gold teeth, silver teeth - who literally live off others deaths, girls lured from their villages for work but sold to sex industry....

Re: Menial chores: a bitter truth

I for one, on the contrary, find cleaning very therapeutic! If I'm extremely stressed out, I clean my room, or the living room... that calms me down! When I have a bad day at the office, I return home, don't talk much to anyone... head straight to my room and start cleaning it. It helps me take my mind off the office.

So, forget menial... I quite enjoy cleaning!

If I didn't... I'd do it for the money... Coz lets face it... maids, these days, demand money like ransom! The lady, who comes to sweep our house and clean vessels, takes a cool salary of rs. 1200 every month from us! And she works in several such homes!

I suppose the only argument this will have is "how do you know whether she's enjoying her job"! Well... honestly, how many of us really "love" what we're asked to do at the workplace?! Mundaneness creeps in everywhere!

Sorry yaar,

You may be right. Since I was inexperienced I was skeptical about your views.
