What have you done for this country ?

I was just thinking yesterday that we shout at people, criticize politicians, show anger and what not. but what we have done for this country ? If we consider our contry our mata (may be debatable) shouldn't we do something for it ? And if we decide to do something and spend 1 day /month we can certainly give many things.

Frankly speaking I have done nothing other than donating money here and there. I don't consider donations as service to a country.

People could you tell us what have you done for India (of course other than donations) ? May be it will encourage others like me to do something

maybe if u lived in UK then u will know what all of UK citizen give to UK, money loads of money: thru taxes, thru VAT, thru council tax, license fees, house tax etc, what more can we give? if u earn 80,000 per year 30-40,000 of that goes on the tax leaving u with 40,000!!!!!
and what does the country give us in return? except for free NHS (where one has to wait for a decade to get treatment), free teaching (with cash-strapped teachers), Fire service (which get paid so shit, meanwhile the politician who just sit on their arses and come up with shit laws get pain loads more!!! is that justice!!!!

i m sure in india they ask u for tax but u can get away with not paying tax i think?

When we love somebody we don't expect something in return. Atleast thats the case with me.

So instead of thinking what country gives me back, I would like to think what can I give ?

May be UK doesnt need anything other than money from people, but India surely needs more that money from people.

I haven't done much either except for giving donations.

But on the other hand, I haven't harmed my country either. Have never given bribes, nor bought tickets in black nor done anything else which was not in the country's interest.

Are you asking about the country we are working in (US,UK or whichever) or you are asking about Native country (India in my case), question is not clear man......

About doing something for the country I am working in, man I am paying too much of tax and social security (which I dont think many of us going to use as its starting from age 67 onwards in US).

About my native country, I might have some donations in my account, that country gimme a lot, frankly till now I havent paid 1% back

But someone work and paid tax in country like US,UK, sometime I thought isnt it same tax money supporting terrorism, when US/UK give tons of money to country like Saudi and pakistan as aids, eventually thats tons of money ending up in terrrorist camps, just my thought, correct me if I am wrong

Sorry bro.....I meant India

You are right that we haven't given 1% back. but are you ready to give it back ? Do you have that affection, zest to work for it ? Or you don't care about it ? That should have been my Q.

Tereku tab bhi bola tha, tu jitna yeha per ek bachche per kharch kar raha hey utney me india me 10 bachche pal jayenge, abey this country have too many people to donate for, best donate whatever you can to India only.

May be some of you feel awkward, even if I donate something here, I'll make sure I get tax benefit, but other then that, this country dont deserve it man, and above then all, I think my country need it most.

nothing. i have done nothing for india. but then, i ask myself what, if anything, i should be doing for india. it is not a question of reciprocation- i don't want or expect india to do anything for me before i do something for it.

but we have all become so embroiled in our own personal development and the development of our families' futures that we do not have time to think of what we can do for our country.

even if we wanted to do something the question that would arise is- what the hell do you do? pay money to charity? sing the national anthem? stick an indian flag on your car? support the cricket team? buy indian goods? what?

Thumbs up

IMO, It's not possible to say whether you have done anything for the country or not. Even a common man back hom in India does his bit, albeit indirectly. Going about your lives hassle free is no less than an achievement. Also, you need not have joined army, or airforce to make a 'real' contribution, imo. YOu need not necessarily fight a war with Pakistan to convince youself than you too have made a contribution.
As for us, we are fairly educated, earn money and send part of it to India, and most importantly, we have opened India to westerners through us. They now have a better image of our country (no more a country of snake charmers), and have a very good opinion of the country. It's no less of a contribution.

What does a country, or for that matter, any of other entity need? What is it that you can give to them? You give it things that it lacks. You support it where it needs the support. Here are the things that India needs, and here's what we can do:

- MONEY but in the right hands : Donate generously. But instead of making donations to charities (which seems more convienient) try to give the money directly to the needy. This takes a little effort, but trust me, the money is much better utilized. It's not difficult to find poor people in India. Best way to do this would be to sponser a poor childs education. That way you are strengthening the future of our nation.

- Over-Population : Do your little bit by taking up family planning. One kid and no more.

- Corruption: Make sure you don't participate in it.

Keep adding to this.

Nice thread, Sainik

I should not say this but may be it encourages someone. I have 3 children in India who's education is fully sponsored by me and wifey.. We have promised to take them as far as they want to go.. graduation, postgraduation.. and also told them when they can support themself and have a little extra to spare each of them is expected to contribute to a poor childs education.

Too late for this.. already up to 2.

- Corruption: Make sure you don't participate in it.

Never given. Never taken and do not allow my family to do that either.

Keep adding to this.

Go out and vote and vote for the honest one there.
