Exclamation Pakistan uses Sri Lankans for its espionage work in India

Pakistan uses Sri Lankans for its espionage work in India

It is not explicitly mentioned. But it can be inferred by common sense. This case of Sri Lankan spying for Pakistan may not be isolated one. ISI doesn’t send it’s own personnels and instead hires other country’s nationals to do the dangerous and dirty work of espionage. Pakistanis adopt such tactics and call Indians as cowards.

NIA nabs Sri Lankan spy working for Pakistan

AUTHOR: NITICENTRAL STAFF - SEPTEMBER 11, 2014

In Chennai on Wednesday, NIA arrested one Sri Lankan national who was working for an official in the Pakistan High Commission at Colombo in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan national Arun Selvarajan had gained access to several security-sensitive installations in Chennai.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said that with the arrest of Arun Selvarajan, it has got major breakthrough in the investigation of an espionage case. On the pretext of running an event management company in Chennai, Selvarajan gained access to several security-sensitive installations in Chennai.

Selvarajan allegedly routed his information via Skype and Viber to his Pakistani handlers at Colombo. He had allegedly been paid lakhs of rupees; he used the ATM of a bank account held by his Pakistani handler in Colombo, said a report in NDTV.

“In coordination with the intelligence agencies, Arun Selvarajan, was arrested in Chennai in connection with a case registered in 2013 following the arrest of one Thameem Ansari who had been operating at the instance of Amir Zubair Siddique, an official in the Pakistan High Commission at Colombo in Sri Lanka,” the Hindu reported an NIA official as saying.

The official in the Pakistan High Commission at Colombo, Amir Siddiqui had set up at least three modules, run by Thameem (arrested in September 2012), Sri Lankan national Muhammad Zakir Hussain (arrested in April) and Arun. According to the NIA, Zakir Hussain conspired with Amir Siddique and his senior officer codenamed Boss and Shah, to cause explosions at the office of the US Consulate in Chennai and Israel Embassy in Bangalore.

“Arun entered the country in 2011, after which he got himself enrolled in an aviation academy. We suspect that he was funded by his handlers. The accused then set up an event management company named Ice Events, which organised conferences, concerts and wedding receptions. He also floated a website for the company,” said the NIA official.
