Fit for Buddha, at £108 a bowl
LONDON: The most expensive soup in Britain is the star dish on the menu of an upmarket Chinese restaurant in London - at a mere £108 a bowl.
Called 'Buddha Jumps Over the Wall', the shark's fin soup - which must be ordered five days in advance - is made with whole abalone, Japanese flower mushroom, sea cucumber, dried scallops, chicken, Hunan ham, pork and ginseng.
Despite the eye-popping price, Chinese restaurant Kai, in London's chic Mayfair district, sells on average two bowls each month, the restaurant's proprietor Bernard Yeoh said.
..............
During its painstaking preparation, the soup's different elements are boiled or steamed in four separate dishes for between four and seven hours each.

Norse Code: Sex, orgy & stubbies
OSLO: Having sex with 17 people in as many days, downing a case of beer in 24 hours and making out with a student of the same sex are just a few of the escapades many Norwegian high school students get up to each May in a well-established pre-graduation tradition.
Every year, some 30,000 teens about to graduate from high school take part in massive celebrations that go on unabated from May 1 until they culminate in a huge blow-out on Norway's national holiday on May 17.

Peeping Tom goes hi-tech
Hong Kong - A hi-tech Peeping Tom has been arrested in Hong Kong after using a wristwatch camera to take a photograph up a woman's skirt, police said on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old was arrested after a woman, 27, noticed him putting his arm underneath her skirt as she rode a shopping centre escalator in Hong Kong's Hunghom district on Monday.
He was using a wristwatch with a digital camera function. Police were checking the watch to see if it had any other illicit pictures stored on it, a police spokesperson said.

World's oldest person dies aged 115
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - A Dutchwoman, the world’s oldest person on record who swore by a daily helping of herring for a healthy life, died on Tuesday aged 115.

So, herring & other fish contain some vital vitamins & oils which help live longer, I guess. Am going to cook Tilapia fish tomorrow evening.

Kansas Bartender Gets $10,000 Tip

Cindy Kienow's story might as well be a Hollywood movie. For eight years, she has worked as a bartender in a Kansas Applebee's — coming in six days a week. Until last weekend, the best tip she ever received was $230.
That was outdone when a customer who comes in to the restaurant a couple times a month gave her a $10,000 tip for a $26 bill.

"We were just talking and having fun and then he just ate and ran his card and wrote it down for me," Kienow, 35, said. "He showed it to me and said that he wanted to make sure that I knew that he meant to leave it for me and he knew what he was writing down."

Kienow said she was shocked and speechless. The customer, who she wants to remain anonymous, told her that she deserves it and that she should buy something nice with the money.

Re: Interesting News Snippets

Wait at Tirupati will get short and sweet.

The next time you visit the hill top shrine of Lord Venkateshwara at Tirumala, you can be sure of getting a better quality or tastier laddu — the lord’s prasad.

The conveyor lift costing Rs 1.5 crore will now obviate the need of manually sorting the laddus into steel trays and then getting them carried by loaders, who have to negotiate through the surging crowds entering the temple to reach the counters located near the maha dwaram (main door).
The conveyor lift, installed over the outer compound wall of the temple, will carry 450 boxes containing 150 laddus each at a time. Chief Minister Y Rajasekhar Reddy formally launched the conveyer lift on Saturday.

The laddus usually lost its shape and size, as well some flavour, because of human handling at different stages of transportation. Now it will retain the pristine quality.
TTD produces around 1.40 lakh laddus on a normal day, which is stepped up to 3 lakh and more in festival times like the Brahmostavam.

Traveller says security agents made her remove nipple rings at Texas airport

LOS ANGELES - A Texas woman is demanding an apology after she was forced to remove a nipple ring with pliers in order to board an airplane.
She's calling for an apology from U.S. security agents as well as a civil rights investigation.
The 37-year-old Dallas-area woman says her experience was "a nightmare."
Mandi Hamlin says she was trying to board a flight from Lubbock to Dallas on Feb. 24 when she was scanned by a Transportation Security Administration agent after passing through a larger metal detector without problems.
She says a handheld detector beeped when the female agent passed it in front of Hamlin's chest.
Hamlin says when she told the woman she was wearing nipple piercings, the agent called over her male colleagues, who said she would have to remove the jewelry.

Hamlin said she could not remove them and asked whether she could instead display her pierced breasts in private to the female agent. But several other male officers told her she could not board her flight until the jewelry was out, she said.
She was taken behind a curtain and managed to remove one bar-shaped piercing but had trouble with the second, a ring.
"Still crying, she informed the TSA officer that she could not remove it without the help of pliers, and the officer gave a pair to her," said Hamlin's lawyer Gloria Allred, reading from a letter she sent Thursday to the director of the TSA's Office of Civil Rights and Liberties.
Hamlin said she heard male TSA agents snickering as she took out the ring. She was scanned again and was allowed to board even though she still was wearing a belly button ring.
"After nipple rings are inserted, the skin can often heal around the piercing, and the rings can be extremely difficult and painful to remove," Allred said in the letter.
Hamlin filed a complaint, but the TSA's customer service manager at the Lubbock airport concluded the screening was handled properly, Allred said.
Allred said she might consider legal action if the TSA does not apologize.
"I wouldn't wish this experience upon anyone," Hamlin told a news conference Thursday. "No one deserves to be treated this way."
On its website, the TSA warns that passengers "may be additionally screened because of hidden items such as body piercings, which alarmed the metal detector."
"If you are selected for additional screening, you may ask to remove your body piercing in private as an alternative to a pat-down search," the site says.
Hamlin would have accepted a "pat-down" had it been offered, Allred said.
Hamlin was publicly humiliated and has "undergone an enormous amount of physical pain to have the nipple rings reinserted" because of scar tissue, Allred said.
"The conduct of TSA was cruel and unnecessary," Allred wrote. "The last time that I checked a nipple was not a dangerous weapon."
TSA spokesman Dwayne Baird said he was unaware of the incident. There is no specific TSA policy on dealing with body piercings, he said, "as long as it doesn't sound the alarms."
If an alarm does sound, "until that is resolved, we're not going to let them go through the checkpoint, no matter what they're wearing or where they're wearing it."
People routinely pass through security wearing wedding rings without problems, and it might take a larger bit of metal to trigger an alarm, Baird said.
