Re: Some Good News! I have become UpaShastri

Dirty,

I am studying a whole range of ancient languages. I am going back in time. There was a time when people wrote words all joined up. Because the "space separating two words" was an idea not yet invented. I have read in Latin pieces written before the pronouns - he, she, it were invented. Go back further to ancient Egyptian - the "vowels" were not invented. They wrote "Dirty" and "Doroty" the same - they had an ingenious way to distinguish between the two. Go back further and you go to Proto-Indo-European. You go to a time when VERBS were not invented. They had one syllable words for things, and used expressions to convey.

"Ra" was sun. "Ga" was go. When a man died it was "Ra Ga" - The "sun in his life has gone" Gu was darkness. So Gu was also cave. Who led you from darkness to the sun - GuRa or GuRu.

The "Ra" of sun/soul is still there in Rooh(soul), Ruhani shaktiyaan (dark powers). Next time you have Rooh Afza, remember you are unknowingly remembering an ancestor who lived 20,000 years ago, who saw a loved one die and shouted in anguish "Ra - Ga"

This is the story of humans. Our story. But this is just half the story. Just as one language dominated the northern hemisphere, one language dominated the Southern hemisphere - Proto-Tamil/Proto African, whatever you call it. Tamil is atleast 2000 years older than Sanskrit - probably more. It has been relegated to the background because of political history. My regret is that I would never be able to study it. To study the southern history would mean studying at least 10 Tamil/African languages. I just can't do that. Studying the Northern languages would completely exhaust me. Will take at least 7 more years.

That is what I am doing. I don't know whether I will succeed or not. The enterprise boggles me. I am taking it a day at a time man.
