Went to a Southie place for breakfast last week with friends. A Madrasi friend ordered upma. Other Southie friends started making fun of him for ordering "concrete." I heard that reference for the first time, but apparently it's a common comparison in South? I ordered Onion Utthappam

And the food that I hated but it was made at home time and again when growing up... bhakhri & onion/potato sabji. I love it now, but don't get to eat it as much or as often.

I hated and still hate pumpkin curry, doodhi/lauki/gourd/squash (I know all it's names). My reasoning when questioned about my utter hate was .. have you ever heard of any hotel/restaurant serving this food.
