You could go and buy hotdogs off roadside vendors.. I know it cos that is what we ate those days as we were too bloody lazy to cook for ourself.. Looks like there has been some real snow in Desi State NJ this week and still going on. Pelu ji, did you move back to NJ??

Why does it surprise you? I've seen snow in March in OH and I think even in April once. I recall having to wear a jacket till the month of May one year, my general rule is to wear jacket if temp is below 40 Fahrenheit.

In TV, i heard '80 inches of snow in NJ', thats what reminded me of Peluji. probably it was '8 to 10' inches. Looks like there were power outages out there.
In Apna relatively northern gaaon also it regularly snows in April.

8 to 10 inches is serious.. I guess when it snows that heavy it's a storm system gone awry.

In for another 'polar vortex'. This time closer to the epicenter. After a night and day of snowfall it is 10 and sunny now. But over the next 2 days temps will go down to -23 without windchill. There is probably going to be a new record for windchill temps.

btw, dont want to start posting something else here, but now that I am posting... how's the polar vortex? Saw a vid today (not on netflix) explaining that polar vortex is in reality about 50km above earth's surface, but its impacts are on the surface. lagta hai 2-4 peg mar ke aaya tha jo bhi bakwas kar raha tha...
I was listening to a talk radio show during my commute yesterday where the host was describing how horrible it is in the midwest. Then he referenced the movie The Day After Tomorrow with some interesting/scary situations that were portrayed in the movie where buildings/walls would make crackling sounds due to extremely cold temperatures. It instantly reminded me of this post, wondering if sagar pai's walls are talking too

The movie was not wrong about the sounds.

Quote:
Did you hear a loud boom or banging sound recently? What you heard may be a cryoseism, commonly known as a "frost quake," caused by the brutal cold hitting the Midwest.

FOX 8 Meteorologist Andre Bernier says frost quakes are caused when the ground is saturated with water and that water freezes due to a sudden drop in temperature. Then, the water expands.

The expansion and pressure build-up causes stress on the frozen soil and rocks around it which can create a boom noise.

Frost quakes, however, are hyper-local. This means that a quake experienced at your home may not be felt by your neighbor, Bernier says.

Residents in Cleveland, as well as cities across the Midwest, are reporting that they heard these quakes Tuesday night and Wednesday.

"I thought I was crazy! I was up all night because I kept hearing it," Chicago-area resident Chastity Clark Baker told our affiliate, WGN. "I was scared and thought it was the furnace. I kept walking through the house. I had everyone’s jackets on the table in case we had to run out of here."

Frost quakes are fairly common in subzero temperatures and, though they can be startling, do not pose a threat to your home.

Not talking so far. And as some weatherman sarcastically commented, 'It is balmy -5 now'.
