Re: Indian mangoes to be available in the USA!!

Carbide is a powder thats used by welders.Incidently,if its applied to most fruits, their skin starts changing colour and they 'appear' ripe.
In Mumbai you get 'technicolor' mangoes that are a beautiful yellow-green-red on the outside, and saffron-yellow-white on the inside---and they taste awful.
Thats due to this carbide.
Its a Bhaiyya speciality thats been adapted with gusto by the morons of Konkan. Bhaiyyas use carbide even on bananas so now you get 'yellowed' bananas that taste like wood.

Here they dont use such techniques, however, they do use something called 'food wax' with which they polish all fruits so that they look very glossy and attractive.

Fortunately, in California you get some of the best fruits and very wide variety of fruits in the entire USA.

I totally agree, I am waiting for big players to buy a piece of land in Mexico and grow Indiani Mango. We will surely enjoy the price $4.oo a box then and not feel the pinch by $45.00 .

Proposal to aid export of mangoes
S. Prasad

Krishnagiri: The Krishnagiri district administration has forwarded a project proposal to the State government to promote the export of fruits and mango pulp under the brand name Krishmaa.

A society has been registered under the Societies Registration Act and a logo has been designed.

About 40 ha of land has been identified at Alapatti near here to set up an Agricultural Export Zone for mangoes. It will have a separate wing to market fresh fruits and other valued added products with a focus on exports. It will also help with input supply and the utilisation of solid waste to create a revenue stream.

The district accounts for the maximum mango production in the State with nearly 40,000 ha coming under it. The average yield is estimated to be around nine tonnes a ha. Tothapuri accounts for 70 per cent. Of the remaining 30 per cent, Neelam accounts for about 15 per cent. Realising the export potential, a number of multinational companies have entered into joint ventures with farmers in the district for the export of fresh fruits. Although Krishnagiri is a major mango producer in the State, the export of fresh fruits from the district is negligible.

According to District Collector Santhosh Babu, ‘Krishmaa’ would help provide remunerative prices for farmers and mango pulp producers.
The administration had proposed a web-based marketing system to enable farmers sell their produce worldwide to agencies.

Re: Indian mangoes to be available in the USA!!

Alphonso and Kesar mangos are available in many Indian stores this season. Prices are from $30 to $40 a dozen, but they are really worth it, if you pick them at the right time.

Re: Indian mangoes to be available in the USA!!

Heavy exports of mangoes is reported from india, visited cargo terminal of amritsar airport yesterday, their warehouse was stinking with rotten magoes, hahaha not enuff space with airlines to carry the already piled up backlog.

The export cost for USA, per kg comes to approx. INR 370(including airfreight), if exported volume is more than 500kgs, it will come to around 150 if shipped through sea cargo, the retailers are making grand profit there

Re: Indian mangoes to be available in the USA!!

Bought a box of 10 mangos (Junagadh Kesar) from the local desi Store for $30 bucks. Very Nice packing (all the mangos were individually wrapped)..

8 out of the 10 turned out bad (rotten)... I am pissed...
