WISDOM OF THE DAY thread

In Vedic/Hindu religion/philosophy, one often reads/hears that desire is the root cause of reincarnation and misery. However, the religion while praising the wily Vishnu only recommends cessation of desire (not action though) to supposedly end the cycle of reincarnation and misery.

On the other hand the law of Karma says you will reap what you sow, but not necessarily when you expect it.

After a decade of reflection on the law of Karma, the wise sage Dhuracharya has determined that wily Vishnu uses law of Karma and your own desire to play tricks on you.

Responding to the stimulus around you, you crave for something or desire it strongly and work hard to achieve that (skill/money/punnya whatever) and you have accumulated good karma for THAT particular cause/objective. Now, in your next birth, even if you are born with that strong skillset, you can still be a TOTAL LOSER...this because you (even if human) are thrust into the environment where this skill is totally useless.

For example, say you have mastered how to multiply 123456789 with 34334145 in less than 5 seconds and are born with this skill in present age. Next thing you know is that you struggle to use and master modern devices like computers etc because your strong skillset is also acting as a barrier in education. You are now recognized as an idiot savant and may gain 5 min of fame in Guinness Book of World Records or such but overall you struggle to make ends meet...

Re: WISDOM OF THE DAY thread

Hindu scriptures give cosmological timelines of different Yugs, and each Yug has different "velocity of time" or rate at which evolution takes place. This is consistent with change/transformation happening at different rates in different Yugs.

Change happens slowest in Sat Yug, whereas it is fastest in Kal Yug.

Therefore, the wise sage Dhuracharya observes that truly intelligent folks tend to be very charitable (in spite of personal hardships) and do penances in Kal Yug, thus accumulating good Karma rather quickly, to spend it slowly in other Yugs. The morons on other hand end up using their good karma rather quickly in Kal Yug, only to find themselves in misery and servitude in other Yugs...the wily Vishnu entices those who he does not like to spend up their good karma in Kal Yug, so he can sleep longer on his snakebed in milky-ocean (or milky way galaxy perhaps)

Re: WISDOM OF THE DAY thread

Even if a person does good or bad, it is ultimately only the Ishwara who is causing them to play out these deeds. The Ishwara is the macro consciousness manifest of this universe and controls each and every thing in this universe.

Note I learned all this by debating with a friend who practices Advaita.

On an average, people who complain more live longer. Releasing this tension increases immunity and boosts their health.

milky-ocean does not symbolize only milky way galaxy but whole universe.

YES the change is FASTEST in kalyuga.just see how much technological change has taken place in the last 200 years.the world many years ago used to be a collection of several kingdoms which constantly used to fight with each other & had relatively no fixed boundaries(wars always change the boundaries)then some kingdoms in europe slowly evolved into nations. today the world is a collection of nations with almost fixed boundaries & where govts. are elected democratically.

I would say the fastest change has taken place towards the end of kalyuga.

Re: WISDOM OF THE DAY thread

The wise sage Dhuracharya had the following intuition during his early morning meditation

Each Yug timeline manifests in fractal form (ad infinitum)...something like this

I. Satyug
Satyug
Satyug
Tretayug
Dwaparyug
Kalyug
Tretayug
Dwaparyug
Kalyug
II. Tretayug
III.Dwaparyug
IV. Kalyug

This model may explain why the traditional Hindu cosmology and that explained by Sri Yukteswar may simultaneously be valid.

Re: WISDOM OF THE DAY thread in form of 20 year old jokes

Worldly Wisdom with some Animal stories

Story Number One -
A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?" The crow answered: "Sure why not." So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Wisdom # 1: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Story Number Two- A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy. "Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients." The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Wisdom # 2: Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Story Number Three - When the body was first made, all the parts wanted to be Boss. The brain said, "I should be Boss because I control the whole body's responses and functions." The feet said, " We should be Boss as we carry the brain about and get him to where he wants to go. The hands said, "We should be the Boss because we do all the work and earn all the money." And so it went on and on with the heart, the lungs and the eyes until finally the asshole spoke up. All the parts laughed at the idea of the asshole being the Boss. So the asshole went on strike, blocked itself up and refused to work. Within a short time the eyes became crossed, the hands clenched, the feet twitched, the heart and lungs began to panic and the brain fevered. Eventually they all decided that the asshole should be the Boss, so the motion was passed.

Wisdom # 3: You don't need brains to be a Boss - any asshole will do.

Story Number Four -
A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold, the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. While it was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, it began to realize how warm it was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out. Then he ate him!

Wisdom series 4
1) Not everyone who drops shit on you is your enemy.
2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
3) And when you're in deep shit, keep your mouth shut!
