I have also noticed a lot of photos of colorful parrots in many threads lately, though they're probably hotlinked to imgur thing that cha pai likes

Take lessons from this thread itself:

1. Why don't you first disable images when another user quotes that post. A user posts image, another user quotes that post inc image and posts his replies. Takes space, noh?

The quoted image lives on another server (http://i.imgur.com/HwbEel.jpg), and embeded here using the [img] tags. Only "attached" images get stored on the server, and they cannot be quoted.

Sutradarji ... I do not possess enough technical knowledge ... let me try ... so we are using links to outside sites such as IMGUR to post photos here ... wonderful ... its working fine. Question I have is ... is it okay for us to get carried away? ... does excessive amount of photo links put a drain on bandwidth or something of sort?

Actually no, because the image is being requested from an external source and the external site like imgur or photobucket is okay with it because they have created this service for photo sharing.

So it does not affect us. Offcourse when such services go down for maintenance or become slow then our pages will either show blank space or load a bit slowly.

so should I go ahead and delete SB threads?
Cause each thread has about 40+ images in them and reloading them through imgur is not something I want to do.

Kindly consider ... same process ... just couple of clicks more ... right click on photo to open in IMGUR ... place IMGUR link in the post and delete the attachment.
