Re: Chess Puzzles

Rc5 certainly seems an excellent move.Had not seen it .
So far I don't know how black can counter this move.Probably will need to think over the whole puzzle again.

Re: Chess Puzzles

I dont get it how are we suppose to solve this puzzle? Assuming our own moves ?

I think in most of the puzzles, there is a killer move, that will make forced moves for opponent. Here if black gives check, and white takes the pawn, then black would target c2 pawn by moving rook to e2, there is no way white can save that pawn. Then black can try to make the queen and win.

But then if white plays defensive and counter the check by moving the king to f2, then there seem to be no real options for black but to expect white to do something stupid.

They have just mentioned 'Black to play' right ? So at the end, the result might be 'black to play and lose'

I know the killer move that I was expecting was to have black promote one of its pawns to queen ... that is what I am working at ... there is definetly a forced move or set of move combinations that will let black promote its pawn to queen ... we are trying to explore such a possibility ... Because material wise both are equal, positional wise black certainly has an advantage because it has pawns that are unblocked and some of it are more closer to getting promoted to queen than white ... if black is to play, I think it should take advantage of this positional advantage while reducing white's material equality with black ..

Re: Chess Puzzles

As far as i can see, black have limited moves. Apart from the check, the only thing that black can try is to promote and sacrifice the d pawn, and then try to make the c3 pawn as queen, but given the situation, white can easily stop it with rook.

I dont see any other black pawns moving. So, cant figure out the killer move, may be u meant 'killer' in a suicidal way

So there is only one option (assuming that is possible to be forced) ... that is to have rooks being exchanged between both the parties ..

For white to win it has to force black to loose it rook by sacrificing anything lesser than a rook (which leaves it with Pawn)

Re: Chess Puzzles

White should not have problem with rook exchange, it will get a pawn, and its king is at a position where it can capture black pawns before black king does.

I dont see any forced move here, would be great to know if anyone can help black from here.

Re: Chess Puzzles

White can get that f4 pawn anytime, plus the rook can capture the a5 pawn, so i dont see any problem with white winning, even w/o rook exchange.

Re: Chess Puzzles

There is a chance for black if he moves rook to e1, and white captures the f4 pawn then black can give check and exchange rooks and then sacrifice the d pawn (d3) and clear the way of c3 pawn for queen.

But then its not a forced move, as white might decide to capture the a5 pawn and prevent check, so like i said it would require some stupid play from white to lose from here.

Is the answer of this puzzle out?

Re: Chess Puzzles

1. .., d3
2. cxd3, Re3+
3. Kxf4, Rxd3
4. Rb5, c2
5. Rc5,

Khaski, I think you are right partly for black has a chance to even out the material ... I have come to a position where black has only a rook and a king whereas white has 1 pawn extra ...

Re: Chess Puzzles

This is the solution ...

1. .., d3
2. cxd3, Rc4

3. bxc4, c2
4. Kxf4, c1=Q+
5. Ke4, Qd1
0-1

Step 2 is a sacrifice of the rook by black ... Imagine that!
