Ashdoc's movie review---Mom

Sridevi plays a schoolteacher named Devki Sabharwal who is popular with her students . Her step daughter Arya ( Pakistani actress Sajal Ali ) however refuses to accept her as her mom and prefers to call her as ma'am , the excuse for this being that Devki is also her teacher in school . Devki tries the best to build a mother daughter relationship with Arya but gets rebuffed every time . But Devki is still protective towards Arya and smashes the cellphone of the guy ( Mohit ) who sends porn videos to Arya to the ground .

On Valentine's day Arya goes to a party where Mohit and his buddy Charles again try to get Arya to dance with them . Angered by her rejection , the two combine with a criminal named Jagan ( played by Abhimayu Singh ) to rape and injure Arya and throw her in a ditch . Hell breaks lose in Devki's and her husband Anand's ( played by Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui ) life .

The court case against the rape accused totally fails to get them convicted , and Arya grows even more distant from Devki because the rapists had taunted her asking to call her mom again to save her when they raped her . Devki decides to take the law in her hands and ready to help her is a quirky detective named DK , played by who else but Nawazuddin Siddiqui .

The manner in which Devki takes revenge on all the rapists is quite interesting to watch , and keeps you really hooked on to seeing the movie . But the last on her list ( Jagan ) is too tough a cookie to crumble . Will he be able to wreak havoc in the Sabharwal family's life again ? And police officer Mathew who is handling the whole case ( played by Akshay Khanna ) , is onto her track . Will he arrest her for taking the law in her own hands or help her ?

Nawazuddin Siddiqui predictably gets the best lines to mouth in the movie , and as usual he mouths them with aplomb in his cameo . But best acting is by Sridevi , who is simply great in expressing grief over her daughter's rape or in expressing anguish over her inability to get justice for her in court . However her south Indian accent does stand out while mouthing her dialogues .

Photography of the film is simply great when it moves into the snowcapped mountains towards the climax . Never has mountains and snow been photographed more beautifully . Music is decent . Colours of the film are okay . Some of the scenes of violence and of Arya in hospital are not easy to watch .

Verdict---Good.

Three and a half stars out of five .

Will he be able to wreak havoc in the Sabharwal family's life again ? .... Will he arrest her for taking the law in her own hands or help her ?

Who are you asking these questions to? Didn't you watch the full movie?

Here's my guess:

Will he be able to wreak havoc in the Sabharwal family's life again ?
He will try. There will be some drama, but in the end, he won't succeed.

Will he arrest her for taking the law in her own hands or help her ?
He will help her. Kanoon ke haaths are not long enough to handcuff maa ki mamta.

i watched the full movie , but it is my style of writing reviews---to ask deliberate questions to evoke a thought process in the mind of the reader as to what is going to happen . note that review should not reveal full story . many do not want to know full story as enjoyment of movie gets damaged if you know what is going to happen from the start .

You got me interested when you mentioned Nawazuddin Sidduqui and then added butter by mentioned Akshaye Khanna. And sone pe suhaaga is the snow-capped photography. Great... will add this to my list of movies to watch

My guesses,

Will he be able to wreak havoc in the Sabharwal family's life again ?
He will go for the mom. Why because. And he will succeed and the courts will fail again. This will cause even major trauma (to the screen players but thoroughly enjoyed by the audience). And then MOM will take a spiked rod and pierce the villain and self (a la Baazigar ending).

Will he arrest her for taking the law in her own hands or help her ?
Since this role is played by Akshaye Khanna, he will stay a cop till the end and will not change his character. But his attempts to arrest will be dashed by the murder-suicide by MOM.

Are you suggesting that he will try to rape the mom because she is milf material?

In that case they would have to change the title from MOM to MILF!

Re: Ashdoc's movie review---Mom

Typically I read docji's reviews after I have seen the movie, or if I know I won't be seeing the movie(e.g. if it features Hakla or if it is a feel good movie). Here I thought, I may see the movie since it features Sridevi. But looks like the producer could not find any Indian actors to play her hubby and Beti. So won't be watching this.

Doc ji, while you won't reveal the end, which would be predictable in this case, you tell 3/4ths of the story, which would kill the fun of watching it anyway. Probably that's why Sutradharji and Lalji, want you to include the ending too and be done with it.

I won't bother either way. these are Your posts. You decide what you write. Like my takes won't exceed 3 lines (too short to be called reviews)

Re: Ashdoc's movie review---Mom

I went for the movie without a second thought because of Sri and Nawaz. Did not know about pakis in the movie until I read ashdoc's review. Had I known, I would have thought before going and gone anyway Sri, Nawaz and AK is a deadly combo.

Sri looks quite old though. I felt some scenes in the movie were deliberately added or lengthened to let Sri showcase her acting prowess. She did OK in those scenes but I would have liked it to be a little more subtle.

Brings up an interesting point. How our preferences change when we know where people are from...what do they call here again? profiling? (read racial )

Re: Ashdoc's movie review---Mom

They take Pakis because they come cheap (even compared to our TV stars!). Since it's obviously a 'feel good movie' (good must prevail over bad/evil), Ashdoc has kind of laid bare the entire story albeit inadvertently.

This is an incomplete Review of the Reviewer. Let me add:

Did Ashdoc reveal the full story or 3/4th story? Did he kill the fun of watching the movie? Read his review to find out!

Verdict --- decent

Star rating.--- three two fifths out of eight one third stars.

It is from the other side. Pax start boasting that they are much better looking and talented than Indians and start their own racial profiling. Plus movies with Pak actors are aimed at liberal crowds. So I won't like them anyway. I have some list of pax I like. Will share it separately.

I dont think i saw even a single Pakistan movie.
While I did have certain good encounters with Pakistanis, some were not so pleasant. I live in a small town and these guys were celebrating that India lost the cricket match recently, not that they won...lol
